Stealing from Anybody in the workplace, Regardless of weather or not it was the Boss is considered serious misconduct and can not only get you fired but also free room, food, board, Gym facilities and power for some time.
If your boss was real cool like mine then NEVER. Not even a pen, a paperclip is okay.
But if your boss was a real assh*le then as long as you can get away with it steal anything!
Thats why get your qualifications or sharpen your attitude in the work environment to get to somewhere where you'll be appreciated & have great perks. Work somewhere where you feel comfortable. Theres heaps of jobs, can be hard to get them but you just keep going until you've found your place.
There is a very simple way to distinguish as to whether any action is stealing or not. Ask yourself would I do this in front of my boss? Would I take the pingas from the snack box? Would I surf nzmusic.com in front of my boss? Would I take these 50 bic pens home (to add to my collection) in front of my boss?
It's not quite that simple in a lot of today's offices. The companies for which I've worked - particularly with regards to internet access - have had the view "just show some discretion". It's accepted that the company's pen supply will dwindle pretty rapidly, and that there will be a considerable number of non-work related hits on the weblogs. They don't care if you surf the net as long as they don't catch you surfing.
Basically as long as everyone's performing to a satisfactory standard, all those little evils are, within reasonable bounds, considered perquisites.

DONT STEAL at all. If you can crack it & your a professional at it & if you decide you're going to be a thief make sure you take the big shit. No use getting caught for minor losses. I'll go for the most extreme appliances, hardware, technical stuff...(hmm get you thinking of me aye!) but thats not to say that I encourage it...
