Yeah I agree. James Cameron knew what he was doing when he wrote and produced the original Terminator in 1984. Of interest is the fact that he never planned to do any sequels. The Terminator was meant to be a one-off film. How interesting is that?
They should of left it that way or kept to the point instead of trying to keep up with the millenium..cos sometimes it gets pretty hectic. Old stuff is good.
he says what, like one line in conan? yet still manages to carry the action. commando is hilarious though. I love the bad guy's number one man who looks like a fat freddy mercury.
Good point. However, the sheer strength of dialogue in Commando is what I prefer.
"Let off some steam, Bennett!" When he kills the Freddy lookalike with a steam pipe.
"Please, don't disturb my friend - he's DEAD TIRED." To an air hostess, describing a captor he's just exterminated in a plane. Pure cinematic magic, really.
Yes that was a classic! Super cheesy lines all over the show! Remember when he killed Buzzsaw? Buzzsaw says shit like "This chainsaw is apart of me and I'm gonna make it apart of you!"
Old Arnie "No thats alright... You can keep it!" and cuts him from his crutch to his head.
But the cheese doesn't stop there, Arnie runs over to the woman to see if she is alright... "What happened to Buzzsaw?"
He's a good man & he's so masculine which really drives me crazy. Der like you didn't know that. Well he's one of my favourite movie actors seeing that i grew up watching a lot of his movies. He was always denoted in a kind, heroic form each time except the First Terminator which totally connected to the 2nd part even though that was the shit really. Him running for local governor or whatever his role is, is something i really am proud of. I did an assignment on him when I was in Intermediate, that was real funny cos resources of him were easy to obtain. Anyway, brag, brag, brag...Terminator II by far my all time favourite movie along with Blood in blood out & Blood sport. My classic 3 best movies of all time.
Movies are just not the same these days. All a bunch of copied ideas with no sense of originality but some sense of humourous innovation that doesn't stay for long...Any hell...
Yes I am pretty proud of him being elected as governor. He is also the best action hero and I enjoy many of his films especially the Terminator series. He is the epitome of cool.
Predator was the best movie he ever made. Better one liners in that movie than Commando. "Stick Around" after he throws a knife in some dudes head pinning him to a tree.
In the farthest reaches of space, one creatures terrified us... In the depths of a rain forest, another creature hunted us... In 2004 they will meet on Earth for the greatest battle the universe has ever known....
Watched the original Terminator today while I was waiting for the computer to load. Think it is superior to Rise of the Machines and maybe even Judgement Day. Out of the three films so far-how would everyone rate them? From best to worst I mean....
i havent gotton around to seeing t3 yet.. but i liked the 2nd one best... maybe its cos out of the first two- that one was the one i saw first( i wasnt alive in 1984!), and the one iv seen the most... i just prefer the second one...
Second one was the one I saw first and I loved Guns n Roses doing the soundtrack. I have watched the third film so many times already (i have it on video) that I am getting bored with it! I am actually getting the new DVD edition for Judgement Day on Monday. Right now I love the first one though.
I saw the second one initially, then the first, and of course the third. This has probably coloured my perception a little, oh well.
I'd probably rate them 2nd, 3rd, 1st from best to 'worst.' T1 is 80's chic (check out Kyle's bodacious Nike sneakers!) and of course the original so it gets marks for originality, but I have an inexplicable pathological dislike for Kyle Reese (sp?). He - the character, not the actor - sucks so much it hurts, but I'll give him credit for scoring Sarah and of course fathering John, which lets me watch the sequel. Not that I was aware of the world when it came out, but apparently the effects were impressive for the time? Nowadays they're laughable but hey, that's the essence of classics.
T2 is one of my all-time favourite movies. Guns 'n' Roses on the soundtrack sums it up, really. T1000 is one of the best 'villains' ever created. The scene where Arnie outsmarts T1000 about 'Wolfie' is one of the scenes burned into my memory - don't ask me why, but it speaks to me on another level.... There are a few logical problems but since when has that ever stood in the way of a good action film? Overall, the fact that this still seemed fresh even though it was a sequel shows how good it is/was.
T3.... always on the back foot because no-one likes it when they fuck around with old classics. However, the execution wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. The environment for horror/thriller/action movies has changed dramatically since the original two movies, in that at least a trace of irony is required by a lot of people to be able to enjoy the movie. It's strange when you think about it - people seem to want to know the makers don't take themselves too seriously so that they aren't forced too either. Anyway, T3 gets credit for recognising this and essentially putting out a pseudo-farce or parody of the originals. It's still ripsnorting action but you can't tell me "Talk to the hand" is one of Arnie's most serious lines. The scene where he's holding on to the truck while being smashed through whole buildings is epic shit. Only seen this film once so it's on the menu sometime in the near future.
As an aside, I finally watched Good Will Hunting - where the hell did Ben Affleck go wrong?
Touching on something that Libelle said in her earlier post- Terminator 2 was more commercially successful than the original film. Of course with Axle Rose singing "You Could be Mine" on the soundtrack and music video-that was bound to have an impact on the younger generation going to see a movie that was a sequel to a film done before they were born. Linda Hamilton buffed up and Arnold was the good guy for the first time in a Terminator film. Eddie Furlong was passable as the young John Connor. Now Robert Patrick was the coolest movie villian that year. He later did well on X Files.
