Hey all.....just wanted to give u all an outlet to bitch about Varsity results that are looming or School exams that are happening over the next few weeks. Is it me or is really just a waste of time....how accurate can they be? Do they actually reflect the person u are and what your capable of....or just how much of a life u have to sacrifice towards studying? I know that my results wont be my best possilbe..but in reality whose are?

Exams fucking suck, but they're the only REAL way to prove that you can do well. Otherwise people can't take your word. Truth be told, most people that do study their balls off don't get along with people all that well and are absolute wankers. Depends what job you're going for.

NCEA...sweet jesus it was School Certificate in my day...i would have passed all 6 subjects if they never internall assessed every friggin subject - notably i got English and Math in School Cert, due to my high rate of non-attendance in these classes (thanks to my then-girlfriend dumping me AND being in 3 of my classes in School C Year)

I agree with whoever said assignments and essays are way better than exams ... exams are about how much stuff you can remember - should at least be open book. After all when are you gonna be in a position in real life when you can't check a book? And who doesn't forget everything the moment they're out of the exam? Eh?

Not really james, exam proves that u have understood what u have learnt during ur course. Well, in civil engineering anyway, u have to understand the theories fully to do well in the exams.

unless you have a bad day and your head goes blank...
just because you choose to 'forget' or put out of yur mind the stuff that you've learnt doesnt mean you dont understand the course.. i understood everthing in my classes this year- with exception to stats- but that, unfortunately, doesnt mean im necessarily going to do well in my exams, no matter how hard i study. it isnt always possible to do fantastically in tests now, based on what you knew in extreme detail back in february or june.. or last year... thats where internal assessment can be better... because its testing you on the knowledge and understanding of the work at hand...rather than something you learnt a long time ago. however, on the other hand, exams are better because they are requiring you to keep up and increase your learning and understanding over a period of time...i think im going completely astray topic wise...

was alright... the reading was pretty good, good topics for essays... the questions for the novel etc essay annoyed me.. the listening was actually quite easy- not the evil hear french answer in french questions... dictation- the lady spoke too fast on occasion... im saying this presuming you take french right?

I was ankle-deep in mud in the nelson region then, so it's not like it was just dunedin that was bad then.
But yesterday, sauntering home from up down, enjoying the sun, getting a rob roy thickshake, and then cooking myself a wicked dinner with some nice wine, eating outside, it was like ... ahhhhh

best thing about languages- you can pass them even if you dont study too much... accumulated knowledge... im just hoping that my 7 years of french gets me a reasonably good mark...
