lending your gear to another band in need.

if a band you are playing with breaks something in the middle of their set do you.

a) get them what they need without delay.

b) be a cunt and make them pack up their gear.

just interested to know, personally i think if you don't help out you are a cunt. no if's or buts, you suck.

Forums: The Bar,

depends if they have a reputation for playing extreme noise rock destroying guitar strings in the process or not

personally i reckon you pretend you didnt notice or hear their calls for help, look away if you must, go get a beer, let them ride the test of failing equipment.

ok, now i know that sounds a little tight.
but i had bad experience once, when this dude playing with my old country band broke a string and gestured for help. we were sitting right near, and i volunteered me old yamaha and this guy plays out the rest of his set with it andd at the end bloody well breaks it to pieces on the stage!?@? like he's pete townshend or something. I couldnt do nothing bout it becoz it was a midwestern bar and i didnt want to start any brawls.

So, did he give you a couple bucks and a "sorry man" or what, were you just SOL?
You should have given dude a smack in the eye just on principle, you know, because if Im doing you a favor and you deliberately trash my stuff, "thats a paddlin'!".

it was a failed tour. we were out of our depth. I wish i had stood up for my guitar, but alas no.

That is just fucking.. shit.

Hunt him down. How much was your guitar worth? What'd u end up using :s

//Hunt him down.
...and kick his teeth.

i think theres an acceptable exception if its the worst punk band in town.

I think, where possible, you should try and help them out. Obviously you would like people to do that for you if the situation was reversed. However, I have known some bands who are just asking for trouble, no spare strings or drum heads, no spare guitars, no extra leads, picks etc. Time after time these same guys plead for help when their gear (which they never maintain properly) breaks down. You can only have so much sympathy before it becomes a case of them just being slack idots who are never prepared. Everyone has nightmare gigs where nothing seems to work, but most problems can be sorted quickly by having spares of everything (within reason) and checking your gear regularly.

I would

but it does depends on who/what it was

Share share share... with the added proviso "Don't Break It!"

share, of course. but it's funny how often someone lends a guitar and another string gets broken. it's like contagious.

I think if someone lends you equipment to help you out of a jam, thats a real leap of good faith. If you abuse it you're an asshole.

If there is accidental damage, you pay for it. I'd say most of the people who wont lend gear have probably had a bad experience previously. Or maybe they caught one of your gigs and saw how you treat your gear.

geezus you'd get run out of town if you didn't lend mid-gig in Dunedin. in fact the lending often goes on just before the bands hit the stage. and if someone abused the priviledge and broke something that was lent ... i'd hate to see what would happen. probably nobody would ever ask them to play ever again.

///geezus you'd get run out of town if you didn't lend mid-gig in Dunedin.

Thats the mind set i come from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you've already played before the band you should lend them gear if they really need it. If they play before you and have fucked up all their own equipment and are begging to fuck up yours, then you'd be fucking stupid to lend it to them because you can't play a (good) gig if your own gear is fucked (and that really sucks when it's not your fault).

If you know you're gonna fuck up gear before you play a gig - get more gear! You have to be a little considerate about these things because it gets old very quickly.

Lucky no one ever wants to breaks a mini disc player eh tom?

I know, that's our master plan!

But we broke our smoke machine.

a) get them what they need without delay.
i would do that
But one of my mates has had an experience when he lent his drumkit to a band (im not naming anyone here) and the lead singer from that band jumped on his drum kit and broke bits and pieces of it. It cost a lot to get fixed

I would never lead my kit out, unless I'm there & I know them very well.
A church asked me from down the road if they could hire my kit & I said noooo!! who knows, they might have tried to convert my kit to christianity, lol

Drummers are so stink when it comes to gear...

verrrrry protective. usualy i just say : "eh, if ur bass fucks up, use mine. If mine fucks up, i'll use yours, k?"
I think i'm quite genrous wiht stuff. 1QA and Perjry owe me.. how many picks?

.....and how all the gear just got itself to the scots college common room......the mesa army!
