nope, just photos of them & the other band they were playing with that night (I forget their name).
There were photos & a review of a more well known band from a different gig thou, I forget who they were thou.
They also had up&coming dates for Die! Die! Die! on their Gig Guide at the back
Ha they were on C4 IP last night!!
An interview & a live song.
Andrew turned into a big tv star right on the spot.
Cool song thou, finally I get to hear/see something from them!!
Hmm did anyone happen to tape that C4 thing. Because with me being stuck in Germany and all I didn't see it. This causes me great pain and I would forever in debt to someone who would have taped it. Perhaps.
die die die were fucking incredible on saturday. band of the night.
Meterman were appalling, they were so bad they made HDU sound exicting! what a feat.
2004 belongs to 2 bands: the mint chicks and die die die. I cant wait for the tour. I might try and make it along to a few of the shows outside of auckland.
//Meterman were appalling, they were so bad they made HDU sound exicting! what a feat.
Totally agree except for this comment - no matter how bad Meterman were they most definately did not manage to make HDU sound exciting - twas the most anally rententive, pretentious bollocks I've heard in a long time. Formula: take something really lame and turn it up fucking loud and a whole lot of people who don't know better will think it's cool and artistic!
Thank God for some people seeing through the emperor's new clothes. My only complaint is that you didn't include Die die die. Saw them at the KA's. I thought they suck suck sucked. The bass player and drummer are selling themselves short - they were fucking amazing, tight and punchy, like an aural clenched fist smashing into my ears. Wicked drum parts, too. I would have quite enjoyed if just the two of them had jammed on a few riffs for 45 minutes.
But that singer/guitarist - pretentious SHIT. It might have won over the hipster scene in Auckland, but that doesn't qualify his performance as musical. Energetic, yes, entertaining, sort of. But it sounded like ten babies who need their shitty nappies changed. And the lyrics, when I could hear them , as with everything else he did, sounded like it was the first thing that had popped into his head.
Incisive, Mr Macdonald. I'm just telling it like I saw it - you don't have to agree with me (and obviously don't). What makes your opinion more valid than mine?
Hey Andrew - What do I know? Obviously you've got plenty of fans and by all accounts you have a healthy self-image - maybe I just caught you on an off-night or something. Or maybe the beauty of the music IS the ugliness of the music. Or something.
To quote Bruce Russel of the band the dead c,
when he reviewed the skeptics he said:
"There is beauty in ugliness, children"
I think this applys perfectly to Die! Die! Die!
I feel a bit bad for emphasising the negatives - Andrew, sorry I pciked on you personally, let me also say (on top of my criticism) that your physical performance was inspiring and I went home and wrote songs that night, so I guess I got something from it. Although i didn't actually 'enjoy' the music in a traditional sense, I did enjoy the energy of your band, and I liked how you sort of left harmony and melody and that stuff at the door and instead concentrated on something else - creating audio chaos, maybe? The guitar getting thrown into the drums was just excellent. I know that's not exactly new, but it was still great. So there were good things and bad. At the end of the day, I'll be going along to another gig when I get the chance, so I guess I like it more than I don't.
everyone has their own opinions and tastes, thats what makes it all so fucking great. however after hearing the deputy sing the praises of Gestalt Switch and then going to see the worst origional covers band in the country i can't help but laugh at what he has said above.
Yes, everyone does have their own opinions - it seems that lots of people agreed with me about Gestalt Switch. They went to #1 on the mp3.com.au charts with This Home, and got to #2 and #7 at the same time on the amplifier.co.nz charts for about two weeks (The songs were Seventh Day and This Home respectively). Bear in mind these recordings were just demos - there are bigger projects in the pipeline for 2004, which I believe will lead to them doing a video and possibly an album in 2005. Certainly there has been interest expressed by several record labels, and they show no signs of slowing down. So what the fuck do you know?
I thought this was about Die! Die! Die! not manamana.
manamana get your own website already so your legions of uber haters can get themselves off to pictures of you giving them the finger.
What a sad comment I made.
What a sad turn for a forum to take.
What sad lives we lead.
At the end of the day it is only the internet, only music, only opinions, only bullshit.
Die! Die! Die! need to play Wellington more. That is what you should be bitching about.
// Please take Gestalt Switch right out of the Die! Die! Die! forum.
yeah thats right. there is no way i can take his opinion seriously now. he may aswell have rated the f**lers. however i do like it how andrews stage antics inspired him to rush home and do something.
FBB were #1 in the running for the opening slot at the BDO for a couple of weeks ahead of alot of 'in bands' they also received 1000 hits in a day on www.homeowner.com and had and average rating on www.hotornot.com of 9.89% but they still faded into oblivion. go figure?
Yeah, I was frightened he might write mean things!
No, I felt a bit nasty pointing out all the bad things (in my view) about DDD, but without mentioning the good things. So I tried to make it a bit more balanced.
cause after the gig we played at Bodega, I was satisfied and didn't want to play BDO. JD removed me from the top nominated bands and i went back to living the life of a non-rockstar. I believe with the support on the NZM massive, the FBB coulda gone all the way...but I'm photographing the BDO dammit!...i don't want to be fucking around with band gear, practising and shit.
Look, I'm sure this is getting sort of boring for everyone else, so hopefully manamana will let it go, but actually I didn't "bring" Gestalt Switch into this forum, manamana made reference to them a little further up the page and I was just answering him, although I notice his comments aren't directed straight at me but rather in reference to me. I put in the web addresses so anyone who is interested can find out for themselves if it's good or not.
I have come to think of manamana as one of those kids who got picked on at high school for being a bit different (am I getting warm here?) who then found an outlet for his frustration in the internet. I imagine manamana as looking and acting a bit like the comic book shop guy on the simpsons. I notice that manamana has taken the trouble to make reference to Gestalt Swtich in numerous other forums, and he seems to have come to the conclusion that they must be christian, no doubt based on guitarist Blair's "Jesus" guitar strap, intended as a joke which I guess you missed. Either way, get over it you sad fuck.
I don't give a shit whether you think what I have to say is valid or not - it's clear to me that you practically live on this site and probably don't have much else going on in your life, so what sort of judge of people and music can you be, really? I am around music and musicians all day every day, I studied music right through school and am about to start my fifth year of music study at tertiary level, and even though I realise this doesn't automatically qualify me to say what is good music and what is bad music for everyone, it does allow me to understand why I get a kick out of some music and don't like other music. I can back my opinions up and articulate what I like and don't like in a piece of music/musical performance, where you, manamana, seem more inclined to just criticise constantly. I come on this site to share musical experiences, review gigs, learn from others, check out what bands are up to, download new music and find out about new bands, not to argue back and forth with some sad loser. Let me say again that after reading your comments, I don't give a fuck what you think anymore, and you're wasting your time to direct any comments either at me or about me from here on in.
When i went along to HDU last saturday and saw those little shits from that terrible Dunedin rockquest band, I automaticly decided i hated them. But i dont think it was fair to pass judgement on Die! Die! Die! It was really refreshing. He really is a great singer.
