I actually found Russel Baillie's review of the Muse album to be almost exactly what I thought. I didn't really like the album much. I suppose they are being more experimental on this album and it shows and for me, they don't really pull it off. They seem to be trying too hard to be weird. Having said that, there are some fucking good songs on there - Time is Running Out, Hysteria and Apocalypse Please are all good and fun. I'd recommend listening to it before buying it, because it might be too arty for some.

Absolution is an awesome album ... go ahead and buy it! Although if you don't have any other albums of theirs you probably can't go past Origin of Symmetry.

I like Absolution but it seems to me to be one that you should sorta listen to in order. Individually the tracks seem a bit weak, though there are still some good tracks.

i admittedly haven't heard their entire catalogue (probably because their singles have been so weak, thus giving me no reason to add them to my ever growing list of 'bands worth checking out further')
but honestly, they seem to be missing something . .. their new single just sounds boring to me, almost as if they have sat down as a band and tried to make a really nondescript song, and succeded in doing so..
plug in baby was crap as well, .. . weak lyrics, bugger all melody, slick but dreadful video, .. in fact i can't think of anything good to say, so i'm gonna shut up before i get myself in more trouble .. .
apologies to all their fans, but muse doesn't do it for me i'm sorry :)

grusome - I thought that his melodies ...
grusome - I thought that his melodies were a major strength, lots of clever key changes shifting underneath. There's a real classical feel to his melody like you could replace his voice with a violin or a clarinet. I would be interested to see how they translate their complexity live, I assume they gig as a three piece? I posted somewhere else on nzm about all the influences I can here in his writing, and I really like that when you are listening to a song and you hear something that reminds you of supergrass or radiohead or qotsa or powerman 5000 or beatles or jellyfish or queen etc which is what absolution does for me.
