Yeah the Cure would have been great, we cued for ages but missed out on door sales, so we went to Metro to drown our sorrows for a couple of hours, we left and about 30mins later the Cure showed up at the bar for after gig drinks, my mates sister stayed on and got photos with the band...Lucky bitch!
I saw the 'Welcome to the Jungle' vid last night on C4, damn they were cool in their heyday. Didn't you just love the hair? ;) Have to agree with you about the original line up too..
With every hugely successful band they seem to have an awful trend, work their asses off to get to the top, have a few years in the limelight, then become very unfashionable and one of the worlds most hated acts. sucks! People are so fickle.
The wttj video makes me laugh. Thank god appetite for detsruction started selling and they were able to drop that stupid hair band image.
Hey discgolfer, I see the use your illusion live in tokyo dvds have been officially released. Have you got them yet? if you haven't yet, you fuckin well should. Probably the best concert I've ever seen. Slash is amazing. Of course I've got way more boots than that.
That's cos everyone saw them at the big day out 1996, jumped up and down with ten thousand others yelling "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" and then realised how over and irrelevant they'd become.
Thought that was '95? but yeah that was funny watching all those people who were up the front (biggest mosh I'd ever seen in NZ) trying to get out after three songs.
it was two hours drive to east la and the girls i was with were keen to the very last minute, they put it off until the next night which they consequently chickened out on as well. gutted.
i offered to shout everything and all... what's wrong with some people??
abso fuckin lutely - I missed out by 1 week seeing them here in Melb during the California tour. My wife saw it and says it was the best concert she has ever seen, and she has seen an awful lot of shows...BUT it's Tomahawk, melvins and Fantomas in the 1 show in Dec!!! WOOO-HOOO!!!
NZ bands - SuperGroove (when Che was in it, but I did see them in their Backspacer era), Weta & HLAH
others - SoundGarden, Nirvana, Kyuss, MetallicA (when Jason was still in the band)
Err, wasn't Alternative Washing Machine an indie club night that happened to be at Forts Xing for a while and, having been revived, is now drifting around K' Rd.?
Disturbed!!!!!! Having seen the awesome pix my mates got with the band, I fully regret not going last nov :o(
The original Guns n Roses line-up would have been awesome too! .. but I was a lil young then
I went, and it was easily the most impressive concert I have been to. A shame you missed it, youll never see them with the origional lineup (dirk lance on bass) again : (
-the playing was uninspired
-the sound was flat
-it bored me, and the hardcore incubus fans I was with, to tears
-he was timing when and where to take his clothes off (kind of like the set list of Sterogram's my sister got with notes on it stating where each member of the band should lose their shirt :)
my musical highlight of that night was a skipping U2 cd playing the same 3 seconds over and over up at Murhpy's bar after the show.
Funny shit davewc, I take it your not an incubus fan then??? Cause being a dedicated fan of incubus, both their old and new stuff, I found the show very much inspired. I thought the sound was close to faultless (except for maybe the DJ mix) and, yea, I know its easy to take the piss of brandon and his shirt off shit, but if you watch some of their early footage (10 years ago) he did the same, so maybe he just does it for good luck, who knows??? Im not gay or anything but he does look good all hot and sweaty and shirtless, no matter how cliched his rockstar poses are...
I'm not gay or anything, I just really enjoy sex with people that are the same sex as me and they're the image that I hold in my head when I get off by myself...
I agree with Davewc. The sound was awful, and they had little if no energy in the music. I was a dedicated incubus fan, then after that, i kinda... got put off. All their live shows from around after 96' are boring.
