The one piece towlette jumpsuit, the stockings, the bottom, the afro and the foxton, the other bottom, the much used and adored guitar, the pouring of a cold drink over ones face and body, the political statements, the backing track, the joy, the dancing, the laughter...the cortinas.
bloody great entertainment value, I'd pay to see them again (max of $10 tho - I think that is reasonable)
I saw this "band" in Wanganui last year... or was it earlier this year... uh, whatever
I can, and will say that these guys were, without a doubt, THE worst band I've ever had the misfortune to pay money to see. Possibly one of the worst bands I've ever heard. period.
mindless noise
Is there really in substance to Cortina once all the gimmics have been removed? I admit they put on an interestingish show but how interesting is it the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time?
We did a gig with these guys in a shed at a barbeque here in melb a weekend or two after Sept 11, I'll never forget the cold silence after "Fuck The USA" was yelled at the top of his lungs. Our mate Ingrid got up and played drums for them, amazingly in time with the drum machine. The myoosak was fuckin cool
They're not big on technology, so I'd be surprised if there's much mp3-age from Cortina - the one recorded output I'm aware of is on tape. A fan has set up a bit of a website at http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/mattcoup/cortina.html. If you're wondering what to expect, they're a bit mad really, I've seen them at least half a dozen times and will be going again. Salient said of them that "They were good though, calling up the electro beats of New Order, the disco of Blondie and the guitar of Eddie Van Halen. They’re one of those bands you don’t know if you should like or not so I’m thinking about donning a perm, getting shit-faced and going to see them again." They're probably not as together as this might suggest, tending to the more rambling sort of gig, but pretty tight once a song is under way.

didn't you get a copy of low hum last month? coulda sworn i saw you at the show bro. "2001 ways" is on low hum 13...and its also on the VERY limited edition CD ep they released. Their are some stink magnetic tapes around the place as well.
