anyone here collect old Flying Nun singles? I bought my first one while up in wellington for the White Stripes (Mainly Spaniards - That's What Friends are For). I'm interested in talking to collectors about prices and demand and stuff.

Scarcity of those is not news - you had to be quick to get them ''back in the day''
I was a Mainly Spaniard - I know this. (I have emailed you frae w if you still need info on the band)
Most of them only have a pressing of 400 or 500.
I've lived in the UK for a long time but only 18months ago did I get my big box of NZ punk/postpunk/Nun etc 45s delivered to me - a mate had kept them safe in Christchurch since the mid-1980s.
I kept just about every one and...
THEY STILL SOUND GREAT!

I would love to track down the two Childrens Hour releases ... but no luck yet ...

I've been hooked since '95 or so; on my way back to Auckland I usually got off the picton ferry and walked up cuba st to where I'd stay in welly.... One night I went past and saw 'randolfs going home' in the window at slow boat for $7. Guess who was up at the crack of dawn!? talk about the old first one's free syndrome. Most of my collection was built up in the first few years after that, I don't see a lot of stuff around. It used to be that every time I'd get to welly there'd be something in the window FN + out of print, usually for $15 and usually mint condition (bored games, great unwashed lp, fall in a hole ($25), TKPLP001; not at home now so that's the general idea...)
Galaxy is great too, though often I'd go there and only have enough money for a few morsels. A friend scored 'songs for cleaning guppies' there, in the region of $16 (last time I saw it at RG it had $180 on it...) . The nice thing is that shop like that do actually have an idea of how much they /could/ get.... My last visit to wgtn I scored the toy love LP for $12 at a book shop; Slow boat had it for $30 and they told me that RG had it for $60 (and that they'd get $60 for it no sweat....)
still gutted that I didn't have the cash for 'Ponds' and 'Chowder over wisconsin' at RG ($25 ea). It's a sad life....
