Still buying video tapes?
Horde while you can because the wave has begun to break.
With the advent of TiVo, DVD players with hardrives, Recordable DVD players and the digital drive VHS tapes are most definitely consulting the cassette tape on how to cope with relegation. To the bargain bin.
No surprise here but confirmation that it isn't long now.

whats the deal with every DVD being filled up with crap over and above the actual movie (sometimes to the extent of having multiple discs ... they don't cram the end of vhs tapes with outtakes, interviews and making of's so why the sudden change .. . .
as far as i'm concerned, a movie is a movie, i'd rather they worked on improving the picture and/or sound quality than filling it up with shit that i don't really need..
having said that, the only saving grace of VHS is that many, many good obscure old movies are still not available on DVD, but like anything eventually most will be reissued in some way....

The picture is usually great anyway ... with film based recordings you don't often get overcompressed pictures ... it's a bit more common with video stuff though ... more data to record and all.

If you are concerned about picture quality et al you will.
So many discs are coming out as two ...
So many discs are coming out as two disc sets these days anyway, though, I don't think there can be that much improvement in this case at least? (when the movie is on disc 1 and extras on disc 2, I mean).
I reckon in most cases original releases are pretty adequate ... and superbit releases are just a dodgy way of squeezing more money out of the stone ... although in some cases they do seem to have better soundtracks ...
my question is, how do you tape ...
my question is, how do you tape something onto a DVD as you would onto a video? For example, a music video you saw on TV that you wanted. With a video, I can just press record and have it. But with DVD players you can't do that.

Will this be before or after the music cassette tape retro revival?
A scene from a hipster lounge room, 2013.
"I really like this bit here, where the tape's all worn and there are all those scraggly white lines all over the picture. Oh, and here, where the sound cuts out - that's just magic. Video tapes retain the integrity and essence of cinema!"

do any cinemas use digital video yet????
i know they have digital surround sound and what not, put the picture still seems to be traditional film, complete with crackles and spots and stuff...
of course a digital video at high enough resolution for a cinema screen would be pretty unwieldy, but it must be something that will happen soon, if it hasn't already...
I remember seeing something about the ...
I remember seeing something about the Star Wars movies being available in digital for cinemas. Trust George Lucas eh. Umm, maybe some cinemas in USA have them, but I think they said something about them being expensive & needing replacement more often than old skool projecters, so maybe we'll have a wait a few years people they're popular here.
