Forums: The Bar,

wow, that literally gave me tingles up my spine ! wicked cool !

Hey, Disasteradio, you ARE the geek I thought you were! Congratulations!

I dunno. I have mixed feelings about this movie.

At least it is being filmed in england.

whats it all about? . . . Damn being ignorant

Heaps of geeks likes that movie and the book, so what is it about?!

Cool sounds good ... just hope they don't Americanise it like they did with ... well, actually I won't admit my nerdyness any further!

revenge of the nerds

Well i wouldnt get too excited. They managed to do it with 'Blackadder: Back and Forth,' ummm 'Bean: Ultimate Disaster movie'.

Although Maybe Baby was good. but i still think th book is better.
On saying that, i rREALLY hope they dont screw this one up. I want the books to be better, and timeless, but i want the movie to come close.

Don't worry, my hopes aren't up ... but I don't think Blackadder Back and Forth had anything to do with the yanks!

Another really good american version of a UK book was High Fidelity ... but they are far and few between.

hmmm, we will see.....

I know the mini series missed quite a bit out, but why bother with a movie, unless they intend to do a Peter Jackson and film the whole trilogy in all of its 5 glorious parts at once.

But hey , it should be mostly harmless...

i'm sure i have seen this movie before though...?

Finally. Hey if anyone out there thinks they are a true Douglas Adams fan, name the second best series he ever wrote. I say series... it was a 2 part thingy. He didn't finish the third one in time. :(

They should get Hugh Grant to play Marvin.
And Cathrine Zeta Jones to be Trillian.
Oh! Oh! and Hugh Laurie to be Arthur
I dont know who they should get to play Ford.
Suggestions?

Nigel Planner

Rememeber who ford is. We want someone whos actually quite stupid but thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread....

haha! how about the guy who played Captain Darling in BA goes forth?
Cant remember his name to save my life...
Tim Mcinnerny? i think....
or how about Rik Mayall?
or Stephen Fry?

Easy ... Dirk Gently. He also wrote a really funny set of Dr Who episodes that had a cameo by John Cleese in them.

//remember who Ford is...

I know who Ford is and I think Nigel Planner would fit the role quite nicely, only thing is, as with Rik etc.. none of them are the "young ones" they once were. Seriously they must all be in thier late 40's by now. If age plays no part in my choice then I think Michael Palin would be brilliant in the part.

Im not really up on the new generation of English comics, are there any stand-outs and if so what are thier names, shows etc ?

For a start try Steve Coogan (I'm Alan Partridge), Ricky Gervais (The Office), Vic Reeves (Shooting Stars), The League Of Gentlemen, Bill Bailey & Dylan Moran (Black Books), Caroline Aherne (The Royle Family), Smack the Pony, Dom Joly (Trigger Happy TV), Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show), Sanjeev Bhaskar & Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars at No. 42), Paul Merton (Have I Got News For You, Room 101), Lee Evans, Frank Skinner

O.K. I've seen the office, so thats one out of how many, sheesh.

good point disc. OK so is that guy from 'The Office' the drippy manager?
if so that might actually work.

Ok and Dirk Gently is correct! you win a million dollars!!!!
no no... really :)

The Kumars at No. 42, Have I Got News For You, Room 101, and Shooting Stars are celebrity game/chat shows so they probably aren't freely available for purchase. Goodness Gracious Me is very UK-specific. The comedians are worth googling anyway. It is Urgent and Key that you hunt down the other shows immediately, especially League of Gentlemen and Black Books. Some programs were produced by Channel 4, so the bbc link may not have info. Bill Bailey is a Genius.

Dylan Moran for Ford Prefect.

jeeez it sounds like were a bit sheltered from real comedy down here... i should go to the UK...
I was talking to an american yesterday on the phone... Apparently their "World Series" doesn't invite the rest of the world....?

Is this true anyone who follows baseball?

Yeah man! You didn't know? I think it has like two Canadian teams.

The cheapest place for Trigger Happy DVDs is bensonsworld.co.uk ... flip they are worth it.

Ooh I should add they are region 2 though!

Dude, after you work in Dick Smith for a year you learn that all it takes to recode a DVD player is about 5 minutes and an IC programmer.

Sorry had to say it. Any DVD player can be made multizone.

But yeah - So the world series has a 2 canadian teams and thats it? shit dude we should learn how to play baseball and go over and kick their ass.

We taught a few US Army cadets rugby when they came over and stayed with our Cadet Squadron for a few weeks. They loved it, but kept on passing the ball forward. kinda cute/

Havn't seen triggerhappy TV yet... what channel/ timeslot is it in? sounds funny.

is it anything like smack the pony?

Wait hang on.... is it the one where thast guy pulls out a gigantic cellphone in the middle of a movie and yells into it? I think i remember seeing it breifly. sounds good.

Yeah, that's the one. The Nokia tune, followed by "HELLLLOOOOO!!!" is a UK staple now. Other stuff - he dresses up as a boy scout and asks people on the street to help him get a badge by pushing him into a pond or something. There's also a couple of people dressed in dog suits, and they'll have a punch-up in the street. He'll do an interview with some famous person but then right in the middle of it he'll run off for some reason - like chasing after a guy who keeps peering into the camera. It's funny as much for the reactions he gets from passers-by as for the stunts themselves.

I don't even know if it's been on in NZ. I saw it in London. Yo Maddy, where did you see it?

Triggerhappy TV was on in NZ 3-4 years ago-ish. Man it was classic.

Oh and James, you say you split your time between Wellington and Dunners - So when are you crusing down this way next? This whole damn city is turning into a ghost town as people finish exams and bugger off. Its getting boring.

Yeah it was repeated last year for a wee while as well.
Favorite prank would have to be when him and his friend dress up in a fat suits and go into a narrow alley way from either side, trapping someone in between them. OH THE AWKWARDNESS!

Site has videos and DVDs (this is not a x-mas hint)

oooo, that reminds me - The Mark Thomas Product. Comedian with a social conscience. I don't know if we're ever likely to see any of his stuff but it's worth checking out the website anyway. During the series he'd be talking about some politician's hypocrisy or something and then say "I wonder what he'd say about that? As it happens - I have his mobile phone number, so let's call him and find out... (takes out mobile phone, rings up random world leader)". He pulled some brilliant pranks, and he revealed a lot of interesting stuff about some pretty full-on issues.

Yay a million dollars! Just what I've always wanted!

Paul Merton would be good ... dunno about Dom Joly, but Trigger Happy TV is freakin hilarious ...

On a side note, i was just channel surfng 2day. and low and theres something called the "fimbles". They have a similar look 2 the Teletubbies, but more womble-like in speech-coherance. They also have a frog of some kind, which is why i brough this up.

The frog or whatever the hell that thing is was singing to a fish about how he was gyrating his pelvis. My god. what has the world of kids TV come to?
