The Worst Year in Music

it looks as though 2003 is turning out to the the worst year in musics history and makes previous worst years (1998, 2002) look like a walk through the park.

Look at all the shitty "bands" that have come out this year the standard of music is slipping away into Purgatory thanks to no-talent wussies who dont know how to play a single instrument jamming the radios up with there trash.

If the world could be a better place then we'd Have 1969, 1973, 1974 and to a lesser degree 1991 all over again those where indeed musics best ever years

Forums: The Bar,

//Look at all the shitty "bands" that have come out this year

Why?
I'm too busy looking for what I like,
At the Mo its the Yeah Yeah yeahs, some Gomez & that "nice up the dance" & Mad Processors - Nightmare

Got a choice , exercise it.
Don't like it, switch channels, turn it of, walk away.

Comapred to previous years, who cares, spin some old shit.

'Nice Up The Dance' is great, eh?

I think this year has been the best year ever for NZ Music, espeically NZ Hip Hop, I think its great!

omg NZ Hip Hop is the most juvenile shit I've ever heard

Juvenille or just careful? So they don't use explenatives... neither does will smith, and he's one of the biggest in the business.

no they're juvienile BECAUSE they do all that bad boy niggaz shit.

mention rap or hiphop to anyone and i doubt they will immediatly think of will smith

yea, look past the crap and find the good stuff haha

does anyone know where i can buy some nice jeans in auckland? i really like Lee's denim, but i can't find any for males. I don't want workshop, tsubi or diesel at this stage.

cheers

Jeans west fits best.

Jeans west fits like a glove....

//i really like Lee's denim, but i can't find any for males

i have a pair of lee jeans, but since you want one for males why dont you try real groovy,or any surf shop they are bound to have some (one of my guy mates has a pair of male lee jeans),they are quite expensive in my opinion i got my for $70 on half price sale,no whay would i have paid $140 for them and some of them are worst!

$140 is too much for jeans!

yeah i got mine from dressmart got the for 50% off not bad quite a good saving!

go to second hand shops, they have heaps.

i'm not down with the tightness

i like to shop at the paperbag princess on k rd,theyve got awesome clothes not sure if they have mens stuff!

"Rock achieved perfection in 1978, everybody know that"

that's 1974 mate, with bands like Jeffersons Starship.

You know that is a quote right? I thought he said '78 but whatever...

no Homer said 1974

Yeah I know my flatmate pointed that out to, where the fuck was he when I posted?

Bullshit. There's heaps of good new music out there. You just gotta seek it out instead of waiting for it to be spoonfed to you.

2003's been pretty damn good so far ...

bands like the mars volta achieving some real success....
the whole electro pop / punk house explosion...
new kraftwerk album
wicked kiwi bands coming up like batrider, minuit, etc
that new stuff ffrom outkast, which hopefully will kick off a nice funk revival

perhaps not a good year for metal
but everyone else has been having a good time

// the whole electro pop / punk house explosion...

Heard DFA's remix of that Metro Area track? That's sooooo good. I think they've got the punk/disco revival thing down pat.

// world could be a better place then we'd Have 1969, 1973, 1974

What songs that you liked from those years were being played on the radio?

In what area of music? Its so general.

For me personally it's been great. And i think nz deserves a clap for finaly putting money behind tonnes of artists. Perhaps not the ones that you like, but one step at a time. The amount of competitions out there when you look is phenominal, and a lot are song writing comps.

So what area, what genre, and i love a lot of hte music out of the 70's too - the eagles rock - but every era has it's greats.

I'd love to live in your world, I really would.

oops that sounded a bit creepy eh?...I mean your so positive I wished I could find something good to say about music...

Jeez, stalking has started in this forum i see....

no. really no, er...no, not at all

yet again, you're judging this on what you're seeing in television, which you apparently hate. shut up and go to a gig. You can go to a show every single night and see a good band in welly, I don't know whether it's just me or not, but things haven't been better (at least in my lifetime). stop being in love with the 70s.

Lucifer Sam you should have called this topic "The Worst Year in Music At My Cossie Club" people are thinking that you mean The Worst Year in Music in general.

Look at how you have rarked people up, fuck man explain yourself better!

allow me to do the explaining for him

hi- i'm lucifer sam- i used to like steps & stuff a lot- but over the last coupla years i've discovered SERIOUS music- like... er... ROCK music- with GUITARS & stuff- like the shit they made in the 60's & 70's- & i've decided- without much experience of what else is on offer in this world- that there just CAN'T be anything better than... er... ROCK music- with GUITARS & stuff- like the shit they made in the 60's & 70's... i guess you COULD say that i'm a fucking stupid blinkered DUMBASS... but i disagree... it's just that... er... ROCK music- with GUITARS & stuff- like the shit they made in the 60's & 70's- is... er... so... ¿cool?

FUCK YOU LENA YOU DUMBASS PEASANT - POL POT IS GUNNA SKIN U ALIVE

ive NEVER liked steps or whatever that pop trash is, and yeh 60s and 70s heavy rock music will always remain the BEAST!!!!! its much better than that horrid talentless pop trash force fed down our throats,

maybe lena i consider once more you come to a nice quiet ricefield far from the urban confines from your home, that would save you time otehr than postying pointless trash about others huh?

Haha.
Lucifer_Sam, you were owned just then.
Lena owns you man.

¿NEVER liked steps or whatever that pop trash is?- well- according to my sources- you were the typical 10-11 yr old- listening to zm- lapping up all the pop without q'ing- then your older ¿brother? ¿sister? ¿cousin? played you whole lotta love on the stereo- LOUD- & since then your life changed- & so you've spent the last 2 years seeking out the same hit- & trying hard to disown your unq'ing pop past... o- & i met pol pot once- he was actually very nice in person- polite- friendly- funny even... weird

owned, fuck thats a gay expression

you know shit Lena - i got into heavy rock 15 years ago thanks to my parents who where fans of them in the 60s,

maybe again - you should leave the urban confines (The Great Prostitute upon (the nearest river to your town) ) of your home and go to a nice quiet ricefield where in return for a bowl of rice a day, you will be plouging fields manually, digging ditches and irrigation dykes with only a shovel, Hoe and Rake as apparatus from Sunrise to Sunset each and everyday of the month of the year, im sure you would become a respected citizen after this wouldnt you.

and i bet you dont even know who pol pot is you "absured uneducated member of the agricultral class dependant on substanince farming" (how mean can i get)

you're generally more mean to the english language than you are to nzm posters.

Shit sam, the whole communistic dictatorship mock is just not funny! If u support Pol Pot then u should fucking DIE!!!!!!!

// Lucifer_Sam, you were owned just then

if you called that owned, then that was a crap ownage.

this has been a very good year in music.

i agree- o- & by the way- i'm not really sure that i want to own a sam- ¿can i return him to someone?- he's a cute little thing- but he's not house trained- + he keeps on trying to shag my record collection- it's embarrassing when i have visitors

YOU agree? hah hahha h ahh what a lame taste in music you Avril loving weirdo. This disclaims just about anything you have to say on the music, any music. It makes me cringe to think of your undoubtedly huge and most probaly 90% awful record collection taking up most of your living space.

2003 was especialy shit, not because of the god awful pop/soft R&B that dominates the charts but because of an almost complete lack of an alternative for anyone with a brain over the age of 5. 'cept for qotsa ther's nothing literally nothing exciting going on in music. Name something if you dare.

subject of music.

//Name something if you dare.
Why the fuck should we do your homework?

I dare you to stop whining and go to an actual gig. Or get on the interweb and do some proper research.

I've heard lots of great new songs this year by artists you've probably never heard of because you're too busy complaining.

Your speils about the lack of good music are just as repetitive and boring and wrong as L-Sams. If you can't find music you like it's your problem.

I have tried. Esp for NZ music. but besides David Kilgour, Graehm Downes the last two years has been a shitter, esp if your a fying nun fan. and sure that may say more about my music tate than the quality of what's out there. You don't think I do my homewrk - I have bfm on for about 4 hours a day at work (used to be good, really bad now,, boring shit music form muso dj's thta no longer care), trawl torough new reviews in mags and on pitchfork, amg music online guides.

And yes I'm complaining - whats your point? Muic has no soul, it's dead and thrity years it still will b. wer'e all waiting, some of us like you like to fool yourselves into liking average indie shit now, but I reckon the whole music industries got to die before anything cool will be heard.

My point is that your complaining is boring and it annoys me because I *have* heard great music this year.

The other thing is, there's so much "old" musuc you haven't heard yet. Maybe you're right and all new music is shit. That doesn't mean there's nothing to listen to. Visit the second hand bins at yr record store. Get out those cheap CDs from the library. Good music doesn't go away.
