Fond Mamories

Well, only 3 gigs left aye? Then no Temple. Holy Moley. I thought I would put down some thoughts about it, and then others might and then we could, oneday, get fat and rich off a book about "The Old Scene" like that twat from dunedin did (or didn't, as the case may be.). The first and last time I used acid onstage was at The Temple, it was pretty scary but worth the experience I guess, we never tried it again. One time me and Peter were playing after Anika Moa and she was walking out the door as we arrived and we asked her if she was gonna stay and see our set and she said "nah, got alot of extasy to do tonight". Lucky for her too coz we were probably shit. I would love a look at Karens books to see how many times I've ever played there. 3 Different bands, and a bunch of solo shows. Jah'na had a residency there one year. Every saturday night we would drive up from hams and play. Was cool. I think if there was gonna be a Temple compilation album, it should be called "Thanks Irene..." . I played in 3 Acid Tests, won one of them. Yay for me. One night, me and mark were on the piss and we ran out of beer so we drove up to The Temple coz I had a bar tab there and accidently won the first open mic night thing with a rousing cover of Iron Maidens' "Running Free" with Mit Frenzy. One time I lied to the booking chick and told her I was a hamilton reggae band so I could play with cornerstone roots coz Brian has been my hero forever. I did, in my defence, learn a Bob Marley song. I scored heaps of great gigs around the country through Karens emails and contacts, I put together a successful-ish national tour mostly by using the Temple website and I got to meet other people who were doin the same shit that I was. I remember when the pool table was upstairs and I was too scared to go up coz there were alot of cool kids there. If you never saw Chris Knox waggling his balls on the bar then you missed out, if you never saw Graeme Brazier fall of his chair and keep singing then you missed out, if you never had to fit 2 guitar rigs, a bass rig and a drumkit on the stage then you missed out. Not many of the cool bands ever play there and sometimes you get to play to Irene, but fuck it feels like home and I sure am gonna be fucked for ideas after this saturday. But This weekend is gonna be real cool and it would be real cool to send it off by packing it out and making so much fucking noise that the noise control dweebs have to come back one last time too. Venue owners are mostly (MOSTLY) cunts, thanks for bein one of the good guys Karen, sure am gonna miss ya.

Forums: NZ Music,

I would have liked to have added last night as one of my fond memories form the temple, but my car fucked out in Taihape and I had to hitch back home.
How was it?

Anyway a fond memory for me would have to be the initial shock of arriving at the Temple for the first time ever..you know, when the old small stage was still there and the bar was twice as long, and thinking holy shit we're only just gonna fit the band in here, where are the patrons going to sit, and on top of that we'd brought in 16 dozen cases of Gisborne Gold to do promotion that night.
I think we made about 200 bucks on the door and it took Karen a few weeks to finally sell all the Gissy.

The temple was the first ever R18 gig i played while being under age myself. there was maybe a dozen people at the most but they loved it and were even singing along!+

Their acoustic nights are alright, u wouldn't happen to be a hippie dude with dreads would u?

Do you mean "Fond Mammaries"?

I'm quite fond of mammaries.

best gig ive been to was at the now long-gone Upper Hutt Civil Hall (which is now expressions arts and events center) It was the 1997 Battle of the Bands. My mates band was playing and its was no doubt about it - they won the contest.

sadly Authority Petered out some 18 months later - the final Authority gig i went to Fur Patrol Killed the fucken show here i was seeing them thinking "what the fucken hell is this??" and "where the fuck is authority??" i was warned by a security guard that if i didnt stop yelling abuse at fur patrol id be kicked out of the gig. so me and my brodawgs just grumbled on how much fur patrol sucked.
