Seems to me that woman authors can't get out of the whole romance squishy no matter what genre they write (not that i've read any romance) Just the other day i read this book called "reigning cats and dogs" by Tanith Lee. And my god she drags on with big words when there is a romantic encounter and sexual actitivties. Not to mention describing sodomy!!! I doubt u will catch a male write emphosising too much about those activities. Of course the book was saved by the fact there is a giant spirit dog killing ppl all over London by making their heads into babies and body into shrivlled up aged thingees.

Susanna Keysen's 'Girl, Interuppted' (made into a movie featuring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie) is interesting. It makes you think about the state of your own mental health.
(Do straitjackets come in medium? Or is it one size fits all?) very weird.......

Add Chuck Palahniuk to that list. Sorry to desert the team but in my experience bloke authors literally kick literary arse.

Still doesn't explain why it would seem odd if this post was about men.

It's just grammer ."Male authors" or "authors who are men" would sound fine. Of course, this means that "woman authors" also sounds clunky and that "female authors" or "authors who are women" would sound better.

A lot of books by male authors that I've read recently tend to get too caught up in this wry self-referential cynical wit, which gets a bit grating, even if the book is really absorbing. I confess I haven't read very many books by women recently...
Probably I wouldn't mind, but that kind of humour also seems to be the tool of the better bloggers, so the internet is saturated with it. Good writing, but there's soooo much of it.
