Must give props to the many commercial stations who are making an effort to boost NZ music airplay on radio. Programmers cater to demand... if the demand for more kiwi music is there, they'll play it! ZM are pretty good. So too are 2XSFM here in Palmy.
nice specific poll addressing a specific problem - my local bnet station plays heaps of NZ music, but bugger all actual local music. this is a big change to the way things used to be in the late 90s. is this happening elsewhere? i never noticed the change, but one morning i woke up and there it was ...
i have to agree a bit. generally new zealand music is getting pretty well covered but not so much the guys who are playing down the road every other weekend and have just released their new ep. it might be afigment of my imagination but i thought it used to be different. though in all honesty it wasn't my primarty concern in that age bracket.
Yeah, they should have a radio station which plays up n coming artists. Im actually in the process of making decisions to market my own radio station for this kind of station. I get interesting by the minute dont I. It takes time but this way we can leave them stations & market the ever growing underground stuff that we have almost everywhere in NZ. Wouldn't that be fab.
You know what we should have other music on the radio like scribe and all the new music that are coming out of new zealand to austrlia on the radio not that shit that your listening to.................
Radio stations make an effort to play New Zealand music, if there is any decent music out there which there is at the moment, they will play it. asteriogram, feelers, pacifier, elemeno P and brooke fraser. if you turn the radio on, you are gaurenteed to hear them.the edge is really good at mixing it in.
In Wellington here it would be churlish to suggest they do not promote local music ..... Rhian Sheehan, Phoenix Foundation, Fat Freddy..., Black Seeds, Trinity Roots etc etc; AND all the delicious incestuous combinations.
With Loop on the same floor as the station, and the 'Green room' and NZ Music Show' between them presenting 4 solid hours of only NZ and mostly local music I feel pretty well served.
Sympathies to those out of range . You can always stream online at radioactive.fm
Fa ye man tru, but if you wanna hear proper NZ music, go to 95.4 Tainui FM... They play the MAORI songs, mostly at nigh, but i can't fuck'n stand it!!!!!! but sometimes during the day they might play some up todate sound...
My local station is an independent, the Generator, and they play a decent amount of local music. I think they also have a self imposed minimum of 30%, but normally play more, unlike the networked stations that don't seem to give a s..., as long as their making money.
AXE ATTACK is coming to Timaru and the local stations dont seem to play any of the bands music, have they not heard of chuganaut, or subtract or world war four, even if they haven't others have and want to hear them played specially as its music month and they are playing at Timaru's Arowhenua Hotel on statehighway one
i'd actually call that Temuka's Arowhenua hotel. very cool. i played there when i was 15 or so, we charged mates 50 cents to see us play. awesome, hope you have fun! Arowhenua is full of nice peoples.
