Hello,
The Super Fun Happy Time Goodbye Dukes of Leisure Party is upon us...
tomorrow night (15th of December) at 8pm at Aro Hall...

Starting with the debut gig from the greatest band ever that hasn't
played their Debut gig yet... Almost Fatal Machines!!!... with Beverly
singing and playing bass/guitar; George on Drums and Jen Wilton on
guitar/bass.

Then Dukes of Leisure will play their final ever FULL set... including
Science with Darren Inwood (former member and current Heat Like Me
hero) joining us.

Party starting 8ish... music starting 8:30ish... finishing
11-11:30ish. Entry by Koha (we'd suggest $5.)

We will need to be respectful of the residential area, so doors closed
as much as possible... and if smokers/outdoors types could take their
noise to the park, they will be mistaken for derros, and WE won't get
stung by noise control :)

Feel encouraged to bring a camera and bootlegging equipment... and if
you do, we'd be wicked keen to get copies - of the performance and of
the party in general... just email them to me or post 'em wherever.

So bring your friends(forward this email to them!), bring your
intoxicant of choice (if at all) and have a party... we'll relocate at
Midnight (once the hall is empty and cleaned.)
Peace,
The Dukes of Leisure.

Dukes of Leisure are wrapping up.

People are moving overseas, those of us left are expanding our horizons.

3 more shows... 7th of December at Katipo Cafe performing on acoustics. 15th December at Aro Hall, a PARTY, BYO and Koha entry and DOL going hard... then 20th December at Valve with The Postures, Death Rattle and 2 others... Christmas cheer in abundance.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the second planetarium gig on Saturday night. I had a most enjoyable time, despite being the centre of a gat sandwich :D Also, big big ups to the Stars in Procession boys... your set had me simultaneously drifting happily through daydream cloudscapes and sitting on the edge of my seat. Loved it!

Hello,
The Dukes Of Leisure are playing at a fundraiser gig coming up next for a new independent Wellington film 'Flatmates Wanted', which has been accepted into a festival in New York. The show is being put on to raise funds for the makers to travel over in November for the screening, so come along and support the local film-making and music scene.

Thursday October 14th at The Cross Bar - Able Smith St, with bands:
NOUVEAU RICHE
WOEBEGONE
BLUNDERBUSS
TAPEMAN
THE DUKES OF LEISURE
$7 at the door

The Dukes are on second, after Tapeman. It's been a while since we've been on stage, so it'll be great.

Well well, the gig was interesting. Tapeman was one of the msot unique acts I think I have ever seen: One dude in a gimp mask made from the inside of VCR tape stuff, playing along to a tape of his music which was basically surf/punk rock... very bizzarre but strangley enjoyable....

Anyway, the Dukes played a blindin set of a paltry 4 songs (we forgot how to play the rest)... it was really good to play live again.... apparently we were quite loud but I don't beleive it.

Witnessed a short promo for the film we were supporting (Flatmates Wanted). It looks interesting, psuedo horror set in Wellington. It is playing this Saturday (tonight!) at the embassy so come along!!!!

dczhi873q dfchls...?!?@#

ftang ftang olay biscuit barrel!!

MOOOOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

hehehehehe... oh yes yes yes yes...

Scott... you are mad.

Dukes next Wednesday at Bodega supporting The Circus Machine on their final ever show! Come.

For those that missed it, the Dukes were on Radio Actives demo of the week on monday. It was quite a poor recording as it was the feed coming off a video camera. However, the track was the always epic 'Dreaming'.

Rock girl described it as 'HDU-ish but weirder... the most demo-ish of demos on demo of the week... and interesting to see whats next from the Dukes...'

Our EP should be out before the turn of the millenium so start saving now!

http://dukes.lucidtone.com ]

WTF?!?!

Hell why they playing that (I'm assuming it's from the party?) when we have mostly finished recordings (and other live gigs) which sound HEAPS better!!

Oh well guess I can't bemoan the fact that they played it!

Oh yes I am crazy Eddie!

Twas indeed from the party (before I was playing for the Dukes)... I was a bit gutted I wasn't going to be on the recording... until my triumphant WOOT at the end of the song :)

http://dukes.lucidtone.com ]

Gah... I'm a bit taken back that we (did one of us give Active the party CD?) gave them a track from that when we have heaps better live recordings (like the Valve recording) of more completed songs (or even a song that we still play)...

Hell we could have given them one of the early mixes (un mastered) of the EP instead! So how did this come about?!?!

The Dukes are playing tonight at Bodega!!!

We are supporting the lovely 3 piece of The Circus Machine.

It only $5 on the door, so you can't really lose can you???

This will possibly be the last time TCM and the Dukes play together, so come along for some mental intrumental music :)

...

sorry guys,
i may have been inadvertently responsible for dodgy demo getting airplay - i gave 'last dance' to scott at active before the first bodega gig so he could play it during our interview - i guess it hung round the office and endeared itself to the staff there despite extreme lo-finess. just think - if they liked that recording enough to play it, what'll they do when they get the new dukes recording in all it's pristine sonic glory?
are you guys still keen for the visual thing? let me know
coming soon: www.cuethesun.com

The Dukes of Leisure final shows for the year are upon us. We are playing at The Cross on Saturday the 4th of December with Tunnel To The Sun, The Army of Synthesis and The Decks Of Leisure (Dukes style DJing.)

The Following week, The Dukes Of Leisure will be joined by The Inkling for a special performance at The Carter Observatory on Saturday the 11th of December.
The Cross gig on the 4th carries a door charge of $5. The Decks Of Leisure will be spinning their ambience from about 9:30 onwards. The Army Of Synthesis will take over at 10:30 or so to make the crowd get up and get down... leading into Tunnel To The Sun's performance (if you haven't heard their EP... then DO SO! It is quality.) Finally, the Dukes Of Leisure will fill up the stage and do our thing.
There will be VJs projecting their projections throughout the night. And The Cross is just such a nice place these days... so come along.

The Carter Observatory gig tickets are on sale now for $10 (bargain!) at Slowboat records on Cuba Street. There will be a live VJ, a star projector, lava lamps, bean bags, educational resources, and no food or drink or smoke inside. Every show we've held there so far has sold out, so I'd recommend getting tickets as early as possible if you're interested in attending. There is only limited seating available, you see. The Inkling will be taking time out from their recording sessions to play with us, so many thanks to them (and I'm looking forward to those recordings.)
Doors will open at 8pm and the Decks of Leisure will spin until 9pm at which point the lights will go down and the live music will begin (get in early to get a bean bag.)

These will be the final shows for a little while for The Dukes of Leisure, as we'll be kicking back for a great summer and organising the details for the release of our EP (beautifully captured by Nic McGowan.)

The Dukes Of Leisure are playing twice this Saturday the 12th.
We're playing at the Island Bay Festival in Shorland Park, Island Bay at 7:00pm. (in between Johnathon Crayford and Ghostplane.)
This whole event is Free.

Then we'll pack up and rush off to The Cross on Abel Smith Street where we're playing with Clott and Tunnel To The Sun.
