Sorry that post is ment to read OK Computer.
Anyway, i purchased OK computer by radiohead the other day and what a great album. I mean i've listened to it before and thought it was OK, but since i've purchased it i've been listening to it lots and the more i listne the more i can't get enough of it. I think it one of teh best albums i've ever heard.
I thought i'd share that all with you.
I get into Thom Yorke's lyrics like no one else's and it's always a bonus to love the music.
Off that album, 'No Surprises' and 'Subterranean Homesick Alien Blues' in particular blow my mind, but there's a million things that thrill me.
The really detailed and intense production always seems to have purpose to it, like how they shift the guitar sounds and slap on the tight stereo echoes on the voice in the refrain to 'Karma Police'. Very subtle techniques for complementing the actual music.
I've never really got into the subsequent albums. Their slow songs all sound the same to me, and Thom's voice sounds more and more annoying. WRT the electronic elements, I think we've basically heard a band that was at the top of their game re-learning their steps in a new medium. In interviews they talked about a lot of electronic acts I'm into, particularly Autechre, but they've never even approached the subtleties and inventiveness of those influences. I guess they might act as a bridge into instrumental electronic music for people who normally only listen to songs, but I don't want to hear it. :P
Oh yeah, and check the pic in my profile. Heheh. :)
Radiohead haven't gone crap since OK Computer. Kid A is my favourite album of all time, which took me 6 months to really get into. Thom Yorke is most proud of Kid A as well.
Amnesiac is one of their weaker albums, but still has moments of brilliance eg. Pyramid Song, Life in a glass house. Their latest album, Hail to the Thief is a very good album, up there with their best efforts. You have to give their newer stuff more time for it to really get through
Hail To The Thief has got my favourite Radiohead song - Wolf at the Door. I quite often put that one track on repeat and geek out with the headphones on.
And to paraphrase Fred Durst, I think we're all in agreeance that besides Creep and Anyone Can Play Guitar, Pablo Honey isn't up to much.
A Wolf at the door is brilliant. The way Thom Yorke belts out the lyrics is awesome. They really do have the best album closers: Street Spirit, The tourist, Motion picture soundtrack, Life in a glass house, Wolf at the door
I think Hail to The Theif is all right... I mean, it's good.
KID A it's a (kill me if you want) POP album. Created to sell.
Now, the guy is really making music.
OK COMPUTER is good. It's great.
Why do you class it as a "pop" album? There were no singles or videos released for it (only promo's). The only remotely pop tune on it is idioteque. Surely if they wanted to sell records they could've just made another album similar to The Bends?
I bought the album the week it was released back in '97 (good gosh, I feel like a grandpa). Everyone was raving about it and giving it 5/5 stars. I enjoyed it then, but I hardly ever listen to it today. I think it's an overrated piece of work. One of the best albums of the 90s, maybe, but certainly not of all time. Methinks Nick Cave's beautiful The Boatman's Call was the best album released in '97 - and it just gets better with age, like a good wine.
