HOw many CD's do you own?

How many CD's you got? Just interested. Whats normal? Whats too many? How do you now you have too many? Stupid Topic?
I've got about 135 CDs, 40 Lp's and I can't find space for many more..

Forums: The Bar,

135!
Wow!

I only have 45 CDs, 3 EPs, 8 singles and some vinyl...

Not that I'm boasting mind....

About 400 CDs, 300 LPs, maybe 30 7" singles, and I just bought my first DVD-Audio (The Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds'). Probably somewhat more than 'normal'.

woah.. how does that sound ? is it in 5.1 ?, or just a 24/96 stereo ? ... that'd be funny, as the original stereo pressing is practically mono, brian being deaf in one ear and all.

I assume the possibilites of track extraction would be a lot better with 2.5x as more channels, heh. remix ahoy. I think I might have to buy that.

There is a 5.1 mix, but unfortunately I don't have surround sound on my DVD player at present - but there are also newly remastered versions of the mono and stereo mixes, plus some video footage (such as original 60s promo films).

I have around 65 cds (not including copies, compilations etc) and 13 singles.
i think that i have too few cds for my liking as im always getting more!
Oh and when the time comes when you decide to buy a cd only to find you already purchased it a couple of months earlier...thats when you have too many!

I note your dragonninja link...

burn burn kills me :D

//you decide to buy a cd only to find you already purchased it a couple of months earlier...thats when you have too many!
My flatmate came home one day with a copy of 3 by The Violent Femmes, only to discover he already had it. He tried to give it to me, but I had it too!. Oh, how we laughed.

And NO! It is not too many... hhahahaa. :)

Burn Burn is brilliant.

¡¡holy crap!!- some of you have argued points on these pages- ¿what qualifies you to do so when you own such limited collections?

hahaha

i have 124 cds, not counting bootlegs and not as many records as I'd like, but then again, I don't actually own my own record player.

i say 60 odd. (im a poor geezer)

I've only got around 150 or so ... but that's enough for now, I gotta start saving some money. There's more important things to spend money on ... like food, rent ... and PROSTITUTES DAMMIT!!! haha, jokes.

my cash goes towards beer, beer, and the cnr dealer....teeheee

Probably about 150-200 (I can not be bothered getting off my arse and counting), and whenever I'm short of cash, I pick out the ones I love the least and take them to Real Groovy and sell them.

I have about... 100.
Of which i now listen to about 20?
I have lost count of not so *legal* cd's and compilations etc.
I had like 4 boxes of vinyl (most was my mum and dad's old stuff, but i added a few). Then the record player broke. They live about 8 hours drive form me, so that doesn't work.

I can bet everyone posting in this forum adds like, %20 to their collection ;)

Fuck, I have like 6!!! Yeah, you heard it right, SIX Cds.
I can't save money, most of the time I waste it in Cigarrettes or shitty stuff like that.
don't laugh!!

i only have 80 :(.... Trying to reach the 100th mark.

Dude, I think you didn't understand... I said SIX. Not 6 millions, not six hundred, not six dozens.
I meant SIX, like 6, just 6. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Just that.
Six = 6

You said 80 and you put a sad face next to it. :(

I only got 6 cds.

I know it's pathetic allright!!!

//I only got 6 cds.

Three words - em pee three. Who needs CDs anyway?

Yeah, well actually I have 6 cds, somewhere in my room, but in the PC I got more then 7000 songs, everyday rising.

u THIEVES music makes me sick!!! I hope Lars Ulrich shoves his drum sticks up ur thieving asses!!!

Yes, you'd like to see that, wouldn't you kitten?

Not enough

60 album cds, 35 singles, plus bootlegs & cdr shit

Over 300 CDs (at last count)... probably nearer to 400 by now. And maybe 20 pieces of Vinyl.

And that is the 'reduced to as small as it can be' collection. Nothing more can ever be sold from it. It is all brilliant!

... but my flatmate has over 800 CDs.

Which is nice.

I know i've more than 180 (2x 90cd tower's full) of CD's. + alot of singles.

Being the lil' Nirvana freak I was from like 3rd to 6th form, I've 27 Nirvana CD's, including bootlegs and singles n' stuff.

I've three times as much Silverchair singles as I do albums.

I think the Most expensive CD was TooL's 'Salival' ($100), to the cheapest being Chris Cornell's solo album ($4.99 from the Warehouse). & I sure as hell don't burn CD's (myself)

those nirvana cd's will be worth a heap in years to come- actually... that's irrelevant- all the records i own which are now worth heaps are not things i'll ever sell- tho i did go thru a period of buying 2 or 3 of certain releases for the purpose of keeping 1 & selling the rest- helped me a lot financially over the last 15 or so years- still have 2-3 copies of certain things- but that's where they're stored seperately- in case of fire or something

Yea, They'll be worth sumthang 'in years to come'. Every Bootleg I've brought of Nirvana's was ova $50 (i dot e 'Outcesticide 1,2,3) + all the live/rare recordings. I've got one call'd 'The DemoTapes: 1988-1990, That's got all the pre-Nevermind tracks with different lyrics & song structures.

Both Nirvana & Silverchair were the reason why I pick'd up a Bass :o) I Luuuuv them!

I used to have about 166 CD/s and about 50 Lp's but ended up giving some away or selling them at Real Groovy.
It's important to only have things that you really honestly like and will listen to in the future.
So if you only listen to 20% of your current collection - why not just give away the rest or trade them in?

I can think of heaps of reasons to hang on to music I don't listen to much but I do it for personal historical purposes as much as anything else. Your music collection is as much a history of your own life as a diary or a bookshelf or anything else.

Yeah, I ruthlessly sell off stuff and often regret it for more sentimental reasons later.

I'd never get rid of a CD. Even ones I vehemently hate, and never intend to listen again. I've considered giving away my Counting Crows CD quite a few times, as many of my friends would love it, and can't believe that i hate it, but I still haven't been able to part with it. Apparently I'm quite a hoarder though.

I keep my CDs in shoe boxes mostly. i have 5 shoeboxes, a 100 disc stand, and probably another 30 CDs in the living room. Prolly about 20 LPs, and boxes and boxes of tapes, and er about 1000 songs of that other medium.

Counted them on Sat and I have 948.

That is if everything is loaded on the Excel spreadsheet... which it may not be. And they're in alphabetical order because its easier that way...

I do, however, know a guy w/over 1200

I've got about 54 cds. I'm running outta room in my shelf. I don't know if you can ever have too many! Unless you have more than a record shop. My dad's got over 1000 cds is that alot?

Trillions

man- this is really shedding some light on things- ¿lol?- ¿i think?- still not really sure what lol means- ¿have i used it correctly?

Laugh Out Loud ...

My first cd was "master of puppet" by Metallica :) ... sighhh

lol is the noise a spastic makes when he starts drooling, silly
rofl is the confusing one, i think it has something to do with dogs, and fellatio

i've got about 140 legally purchased cd's, about another 50 copied ones, and 6 gigs of random mp3's
nearly 400 records (LP's and singles)
100-odd cassette tapes
146 8-track cartridges (i got them and the player for 10 bucks)

plus he can listen to any of my 70 cds and 110 reccords

http://twght.orcon.net.nz ]

bullshit you have 70 cd's nerd...
that rack (which you stole of me) only holds 30, and its barely full...

oh well.. .. . .

i used to think i had a big collection, well i do, there's a few hundred, maybe up to a thousand, of cd's, records and tapes, i've lost count because i've taken several space-saving liberties with most of the cases (ie thrown them out and put my cd's in folders with the inlay sleeves), though the most precious 200 or so are still intact.

i used to think i had a big collection until i saw my friend's collection ... he works as a radio dj in the weekends and his record collection is awe inspiring, every single spare cupboard in his house is full of records, every surface has some kind of music memorabilia, he has a couple of cylinder-shaped records, he has 8-tracks, several vintage and unique record players, i would not be overestimating when i say that he would easily have thousands ... collecting records has been his main hobby since he was a teenager, and he counts them in crates, not individual records.

they looked like such big strong hands, but i could not save my friends from the nothing ...

Where does he live and does he have security?

//i've lost count because i've taken several space-saving liberties with most of the cases (ie thrown them out and put my cd's in folders with the inlay sleeves),//

how can you do that!!!??? I never even read or take out the the inlay to avoid creasing them.

// how can you do that!!!??? //

that's exactly what my ex said!

they're not exactly the best of my collection, it's stuff like the cure that i don't really listen to anymore but don't have the heart to throw away give away or sell, or stuff that's real shit that i don't care about anymore, for instance i've got a lot of industrial, but industrial bores the hell out of me now that nu-metal has taken all the good ideas and made them shitty.

don't worry it's only a couple hundred or so, there's still more than enough good ones left over to fill my shelves and overflow onto another set of shelves and get left around the stereo in the lounge - it also means i've got a pretty wicked and extremely portable selection to listen to in the car! i'm not even buying as many cd's anymore and they've overflowed again, so i might have to take to another 50 or so soon! need to make me some more room!

and believe it or not, the inlays are actually probably better perserved that way, they're completely flat and i've kept the rear inlays as well, the only things i've gotten rid of are the cases, and they're in storage in my mums garage. definitely less damage than opening cases and sticking fingers all over them and stuff.

it was just something i did one day at a whim when i decided it was annoying having them in apple boxes. if i move, now i only have a couple of boxes of cd's to move around rather than several, and that suits me fine. they're still alphabetised by genre artist and year - but only within the bounds of each folder

the best part is that now that they are more accessable i'm finding myself listening to things that i'd forgotten i had, such as tim buckley et al.

oh and kittenthlyer - settle, petal, it's never too late to start a collection of your own, besides i don't think his stuff would be your style
