Some Saturday Night Rockin'!

Comments

just got home from this gig. Rock'n'roll indeed!
Grand Cobra didn't really do it for me... songs were just too long. Guitarist was great though. Similar vocals to most everyone else in the genre ie. zero melody or anything memorable. Not much energy from anyone other than the drummer either (who was excellent).
Two Lane Blacktop really really kicked ass however. I was surprised. I was quite reserved, because, to date, all I'd heard from them was an old old mp3 and their Space appearance. Either way, they definitely have the 'x' factor. Asses were kicked. High energy. Pip, on lead guitar, is invaluable... it kicks them up so many notches it's not funny. Even little things like Matt being out of breath during his banter after songs makes a difference.
I just hope they'll capture all of their live vibe and sound when they record again.

Rock'n'Roll Machine were much like Grand Cobra in terms of band makeup and sound. Didn't really dig them until the last song when they pulled out all the stops and rocked like crazy. Great song. Just kinda bored with that whole sound.

I miss bands that have an actual frontman, rather than an instrument/vocalist.
I guess it's just me though. (and because I can't fuckin sing and play guitar to save myself... it's either one or the other).

But at the end of it all, it was a show of three thirds, and rock was the winner on the night.
