Forums: NZ Music,

Under The Bridge. By that girl group.

*vomit*

How dare they chop up that guitar riff? HOW DARE THEY?!?

All Saints - They are horrible, hideously sick lil whores.

Similar was The Braids' version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. That was really rancid.

I hate the whole idea of taking things that aren't at all funky (but popularly considered classics) and trying to ram that square peg into the circle shaped hole.

I agree! I hated that RHCP frikin rip off that All Saints did! Assholes.

Actually, Best Ever Covers was a response to the Avril-covers-bashing thread.

...but Under The Bridge - All Saints. Butchered it, they did.

Wow, brilliant synonymous postsentiment.

I bet you! I bet you!

You're just upset because I won :P

//while backing away

Under The Bridge - All Saints
You Shock Me All Night Long - Celine Dion
I Love Rock n' Roll - Britney Spears

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Limp Bizkit
Wish You Were Here - Limp Bizkit

Theives - Limp Bizkit

//You Shock Me All Night Long - Celine Dion

oh..my..god...say it isn't true!

Wheras Courtney Act's cover of "You Shook Me" on Aussie Idol was strangely appealing.

Have you heard John Farnham's cover of 'It's a Long Way to the Top'?

I don't even like Accadacca and I was offended.

//oh..my..god...say it isn't true!

Yes its true (sadly), it was on this Diva show on tv last year, it was a duet with Anastacia

Satisfaction - Britney Spears

'I love Rock'n Roll' - Britney Spears - "Well I always loved Pat Benetar when I was growing up"

I actually saw that performance.. that Courtney is a bloke isn't she?? I mean surely??

//'I love Rock'n Roll' - Britney Spears - "Well I always loved Pat Benetar when I was growing up

LOL

// Have you heard John Farnham's cover of 'It's a Long Way to the Top'?

No, but I've heard the Wiggle's version of it. Very silly and fun.

//I actually saw that performance.. that Courtney is a bloke isn't she??
Somebody give the woman a cigar. Acidess I mean. Courtney's already got one.

Anything by Dj Sammy.

Anything by Dread Zeppelin

Argh.... Come on.....where's your sense of humour...
Weird Al anybody.

weird al cracks me up.

Oops you were joking....!!

I actually find the reggae aspect of Dread Zeppelin pretty fun, but as for the Elvis singing, that's where I draw the line.

* William Shattner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
* Madonna - American Pie
* Rolph Harris - Stairway to Heaven
* The Locomotion - Kylie Minogue
* I Saw Him Standing There - Tiffany

Hey! Nothing wrong with Kylie...

...and while I'm at it I liked that cover of Lady Marmalade as well. Better than the AllSaints version, but we're getting a bit of a theme going there now..

New Kylie, sure. But that old school Stock-Aitken-Waterman stuff, ugh.

//* I Saw Him Standing There - Tiffany

ARRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH. I'd managed to forget that one. Along with Ace of Bass. I'm not sure what the link between the two was. Perhaps I just managed to reactivate some old traumatic memories.

tiffanny - hahahahahahahaha

in fact i was watching re-runs of growing pains last week on prime and kirk cameron was dreaming about her working in a pizza parlour - haha fantabulous 80s sitcom re-runs for you.

// But that old school Stock-Aitken-Waterman stuff, ugh

The only thing wrong with Stock Aitken Waterman was Jason Donovan. Kylie, Mel & Kim, Bananarama, Samantha Fox, Dead Or Alive, Rick Astley, who couldn't love them?

ahahaha. Mel & Kim - there's a flashback. I did enjoy the videos, admittedly. And I didn't realise Dead or Alive was a SAW project. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) is a bona fide dance floor classic.

I take it all back. Except for the old school Kylie thing. terrible.

Rolph Harris - Stairway to heavan, what madness is this (and where do I get my hands on a copy).
I never thought Id find anything cheesier than the mega mix of Dave Dobbyn's "smiling" but I guess this just goes to show...

Oh, go on, that Shatner verison is brilliant, he does a wonderful portrayal of how a monster ego, plenty of money, a bit of fame, and several illicit substances can cause a fascination with beat poetry to evolve into a hit kitsch record that will sell for a mint in any record store!

// Rolph Harris - Stairway to heavan, what madness is this

There was an Aussie TV show called 'The Money Or The Gun' in which they had a different act do a rendition of the Led Zep classic each week.

Rolf's, actually, was one of the better ones by all (can't beat a wobble-board solo), and when they released it as a single it went #10 in the UK. A friend bought me back a VHS copy of the original TV performance, so I'm familiar with this particular bit of Australian entertainment history, but other well-named acts which I didn't (thankfully?) get to see included The Whipper Snappers, Toys Went Berserk, and (potentially my favourite) the Vegemite Reggae.

Gotta love the review of the compilation Rolf's version...

"The word irresistable doesn't do justice to this masterful combo. Ripe with grooves and hot with attitude, Harris - assisted by a shifting crew of top studio beat scientists - vivifies his obvious pain and faint sights of hope with artful juxtapositions of vibrant acoustic strumming, searing electric drones and argumentative solos. This is Harris stripped raw and the world, once again, isn't ready. "

//* Madonna - American Pie
a terrible cover and a terrible song but somehow it managed to get to number1 on the nz charts and around the world why oh why???

Cheers for that Noizy.

//* William Shattner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyone see that actors-to-singers thingy on space.. the spock thingy has to be the worst, come on.

// You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) is a bona fide dance floor classic. //

it's a pity everything else on youthquake was so bad! dj hit that button? only if it's eject ...

//William Shattner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

This reminds me of the first time I met my future brother-in-law. He mixed us some drinks, and we all sat around listening to selections from his extensive vinyl collection. The most impressive by far was the album of christmas carols done by Leonard Nemoy, with a backup chorus of 30 children with downs syndrome. Right then, I knew he was the right man to marry my sister.

Paul Holmes. Any song.

oh, and who was that guy who did a dance/rock version of Walk on the Wild Side in the early 90s. appalling.

wasnt that "Wild Thing"?? whatever is was it sounded terrible.
