no i'll admit that avril was once alright. this was when sk8er boi was released and also back when i was naive. now she's absolute trash, her talent, or whatever she had, has long gone and i feel sorry for her fans. covering other bands songs is not good. some bands pull it off rather well, but these bands have also had years of experience under their belts. Avril however is a sad excuse for a pop star!

nowhere near as bad as that band Speedway whose cover of 'Genie In A Bottle' has been playing on juice....the idea is okay (maybe) but the end result sounds like christina aguilera with a backing band, rather than the edgy 80's-tronic fash trash that the band's on stage appearance would suggest. . .
oh so many bad covers... is it so hard to stop and say "wait, this isn't working, lets try another song"
Heard the mash-up of The Strokes' 'Hard to Explain' and 'Genie in a Bottle'? It's pretty freely available out there in MP3 land, called 'A Stroke of Genie-us' by the Freelance Hellraiser. It's probably the best mash-up I've heard... maybe second to 2 Many DJs putting an acapella of Destiny's Child's 'Independent Woman' over 10CC's 'Dreadlock Holiday'.
I hate those sort of rocky covers of "disposable pop" tunes, from the Presidents of the USA through Cake to Alien Ant Farm. I don't find it funny, and as a creative act it's invariably worse than the original.
