RQ - Auckland semi's

Yea I know this is another token rockquest post, oh well.
To all the 7 people that attended, what'd u think? Okay so maybe there were a few more than 7 people there, but at the max there woulda been 100 (if that), Quite a shame really 'coz the bands I saw were pretty mean. *sorry* to the boys from The Checks I missed ya but I'll prolly come c u play with Wash! The Rabble played much better than they did at the regionals and Mission Gizzard did a wikkid job and sounded great! Grannypash were interesting, I didn't hear the bands after them though, *exams*. Mike Puru was his usual cheesey self and Dougie was as dirty as ever. Anyway if any1 reading this did go who do u reckon will be making the finals?

Forums: NZ Music,

are the checks playing with wash at next weekends all ages gig?

Yup sure is, The Checks, Mission Gizzard, Wash, 48 May, Bolbox rex and prolly a few other RQ bands will be playing :)

i really have to know what time the gig is gonna finish so i can get a ride home
does anyone know?
p.s it will be good to see the checks again

The gig last time finished at about 11.30, but um i reckon give it another 30mins - 1hr coz some of the bands may be playing longer sets? I'd say 12ish prolly

oooh i cant wait $10 bucks is really cheap for that gig considering more than 4 bands are playing

about the possible finalists... that Mike fella said there'd be three from north island going thru (out of 6) and same for the south island. so i reckon... The Checks (AWESOME!), Mission Gizzard, and hopefully us - The Fauves. but who knows, all the bands were so good!

remember, there are other places apart from Auckland.

yeah like anime and perjury etc, and while i havent heard them i expect they'll be really good so they'll probly be in there somewhere

Hmm there's ur first bit of evidence they knew who they wanted b4 the semi's took place. That's if Mike knows what he's talkin about lol! But yea I reckon u've got it right probably with those Auckland bands (yea I know other places in Nth Island but I haven't heard them so from who I've heard..). I wonder if they just said they'd pick 3 bands from Nth and 3 from South 2 balance it out? Cos like last yr there was only one band from the South Island? Strange way of working the RQ guys have.

...2nd bit of evidence is the size of the gigs... for example, our Semi final was unadvertised as hell, and held at a bar on a sunday. Down south the final was held as an advertised concert with a profesional band.

A bit of a kick in the nuts actually... waisting our time?

then again, i only know of 3 semi finalists from the south island... 4 if u include " 5th element" from nelson. And from what i know, im guessing that the Checks havent even done their concert with a professional band yet?

yeah we have, we did one with wash a couple of weeks ago and we've got a big one coming up next saturday with them 48may bolbox rex the rabble and some others.

Yea size of gigs hardout, like I said the crowd was so small it was virtually the bands that weren't performing at that exact time.

dougy had to come outside and ask me and my band and gavin, matt and sam to all come in and make a crowd for the cameras

help me out here. i thought there were 12 bands in the semis, there were 6 in the Auckland one on saturday, so i thought 6 in the south right? and none of them were advertised cos they were specifically for tv cameras. and then out of that 12, 6 go to finals. that right?

there were 3 bands in the nelson semis> falter, starlet and monkey puzzler. there were ones in Wellington aswell i think. The nelson 1 was open 2 the public, every1 got real into it, it was great aye. And then they all had to be quite so Mike Puru could talk to cameras, and then go crazy again. and so on

yeah it was a pretty hardcore affair! what happened was that the venue had been double-booked by rockquest and sommerset. my guess is that to avoid unnecesary shit (what with both parties running a pretty tight schedule) the descision was made to combine the gig. or at least that's what i think, but then again, i'm not glen or pete so i could be talking out my ass and not realise. the nationals are gonna rule whoevers in them i reckon.
