The Super Boost - getting behind some clever types

OK - so lets all get some ideas's rolling about this super comp.. and keep it real.. we gotta devise some way of choosing a well deservered artist and give them our combined ethusiasium and shunt some resources and knowledge behind em.. we got the love.. whats everyones thoughts?

Forums: NZ Music,

bFM might be into it.

I think you need to clearly define what you want to achieve. Not like a whole damn mission statement, but if eg. it's about getting a video funded and on TV then you're looking for a different kind of act than if the money goes to a recording or something. So what does the winner of the comp get?

This may have been covered in the other topic..?

Everyone's a winner, Jet. Everyone helps out and gets a sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

so are ya gonna put into the extra yard to win? "hey, at least im having go" isn't good enough buddy!

Yeah, volunteer work's like that. But what are we helping out with?

//But what are we helping out with?

a low hum wrapped it up nicely -

// It looks like we are getting a nice little package here...

free:
publicity photos/ads
recording time
music video
single release? (i'm not sure what capital recording have planned)

would still be great if more people could offer services..we may be able to offer a couple of diiferent prize packages.

whaddya reckon dust? would NZM be into running this thing?

what i reakon we need is ideas.. and expressions of interest

Yes. NZM would definitely be keen to provide the guts of the engine for this. We could certainly provide the voting system and deliver a very democratic approach.

What I like the best about this idea is its about empowering the community's voice/choice. Sounds a bit like a communal 'label' - with a P & D 'contract' provided for the 'winner'. Very interesting....

Question: I'm a bit like Jet though - what is the end result intended - a music video?

We'd be keen to help out regarding a music video. whoever is organising this, if you have any q's mail them to:
info@aminofilms.com

cheers

i think the ideal end result would be something like

1st prize . Single recorded/mixed/mastered, single released, video shot/edited, publicity photos taken, radio and print advertising for promotion, design and artwork for cover, and anything else we can think of.
(basically, the ol' boostarama)

2nd prize.. a few less things

3rd. a few less things again :)

kinda thing???? dunno, maybe a couple of us could sit down and nut out a plan over coffee...

Finalists decided by a panel of a wide range of music industry types....with many different genres recognised. all winners decided by an online voting system, voted for by the public.

There may have to be some definite rules on entry eligibilty, so we don't end up with a ZM type comp on our hands..:) (couldn't help it)

what if 2nd and third got pretty much the same stuff... like a recording and some promo help...
Don't ask me tho... I'm just a stupid college student :p

^ I grabbed that idea from the York Street Acid Test (ooh I'm so entering that sometime in the next few years)

hey, I'll happily donate some recording time, or mixing, or gear for recording, whatever is required.

We could do a poll - "who would you want to see win a free single, EP, video, whatever" or similar, get the lowdown, organise a gig (sponsored by ) of the 5 finalists, whatever, invite nzm contributors to attend, and let them vote online...

(oh, wait, that sounds a bit like American Idol..)

seriously, if its about recognising some shit-kicking bands and getting them out there, a jury of peers rather than a panel of pricks might be the way to go...

thoughts?

maybe it should be more like big brother... everyone votes...

i'm sure you could get a venue or two roped in, indigo/valve/bodega...

and would it be a wellington thing???
a auckland thing???

if a band say from auckland won and most of the prizes originated from wellington what would happen???
and if theres two or more different centres (which seems quite likely) how is parity between between the two prices going to be acheived

those are my thoughts
but really getting a push for it
advertising and shit like that
i know TV2 have that whole shit on about cheap community advertisisng
but would this whole idea form into something more???
cause from what i've heard it'd seem murray cammick would most likely have a benevolent hand in all this
theres really the oppourtunity for something big here...

OOOOH OOOOH MAKE IT WELLINGTON!!!!!

it would be cool if it was other places but Wellington is where I am so that would be cool :p

Auckland = civilised

I'll say it again
Wellington = Where I live

therefore it's better for me :p

why does it need to be city specific?

If a band from taupo won and weren't prepared to come to welly for a weekend to record a free single and shoot a free video by talented motherfuckers, then they shouldn't be entering comp.

only problems maybe when ferring if say a band from akl needs to get to chch....but hey, that shit can be ironed out...leave it to the orgnaisers to work that shit mout

trueness

This is a really good idea btw... a competition by the people... for the people

ok doke - lets strike while the irons hot.. awesome ideas are wicked.. but lets act on em..

im jacking up a meeting - anyone interested in given out some luv to some well deservered hard workin nz talented humans.. email me on - fluxotron@hotmail.com .. or even if you just got some cool thoughts.. come along. say hi.. sorry to the geograpically impaired , but this one will have to be a welly gig.. but to be true - the whole project has to span all of aotearoa .. so everyone send us you ideas and hatemail alike..

Good on ya man, actions speak and all that.

just an idea.. but maybe getting a small team of good video makers together to contribute might be a good idea in oreder to spread the load and maybe get something that is visually also representative of the ideals behind this project. I guess this also applies to advertising and recording etc as well.

//might be a good idea in oreder to spread the load and maybe get something that is visually also representative of the ideals behind this project. I guess this also applies to advertising and recording etc as well.

hell yes.. more ideas is more bettera .. pour them all in .. and some rosemary and simmer until its all bioled down to a nice lil ditty.. simple ans sweet to taste ... yeah .. by the people for the people sounds like a nice plan..

Yea!! Make some awsome metal videos for cripple mr onion! Something like TOOL

ideas from a fish................

Eligibility: Member of NZM.com, unsigned, no previous nz on air funding, no previous competition winners, Evermore can't enter.

Entry format: Send a copy of demo and bio to 'PO box blah'

Nuts n Bolts: Team of nzmers & respected outsiders? to review entries and short list to 10? convert to mp3's, load on to nzm.com along with bio and let the down-loading begin.

The Gig: At the same time that the mp3's go live, that night a gig in Wellington? with the 10 bands on display so that folks can get a holistic view of the bands, it would be marvellous if you could get TV/Radio interested.

Voting: I was thinking with the voting it would be quite cool if our on-line names were listed under the artist we wanted to vote for. Also might help keep control of people voting for themselves 50,000,000,000 times. Should also result in a flood of new folks joining nzm.com adding more colour and diversity to this already vibrant community (*puke*) and hopefully some new trolls to play with. You could run the voting for a week or whatever and hey presto 1st, 2nd, 3rd congratulations! .......................now go get em.

wicked ideas man..

/it would be marvellous if you could get TV/Radio interested.

have started exploring this .. and looking very promising..
this seems like the kinda idea where everyone wins.. this is rare i think.. its also very refreshing to see the nzm community coming together on a project that'll give something back to the kiwi music we all love so much.. damm there's a lot of talent floating round this joint

maybe you can do some live recording done at the venue so that those bands that might not have demos recorded can join in the action. and the MP3's can be posted the day after or something...

just an idea

what's happening sammy?

Man, forgot about this - yeah, what IS happening?

nothing - some support but no one actually willing to act on it... which i quite common

Well that is fucking rank....
