Er, actually, contemporary christian music accounts for 7% of music sold in the US, and is closing on 1 billion in sales annually. It's also supposedly the biggest growth sector in the US music industry. There is an argument, recently espoused by John Safran on his musical jamboree, that christian bands have it pretty good, as they have a relatively guaranteed market. I don't have much info on NZ, but I think you'll find that the songs do sell.
