Whatever happened to the lads in weta after they split up and left for oz? Any nu project maybe? I can't believe they split up after the great album called "geographica"...
I'm a bit late to the party, but then again whats new.
Its been over 5 years since talk was mentioned about the boys & very close friends of mine (Aaron, Clint and Tuma). My opinion is that if anyone can weld these powerhouses together they would have a great sound. They cover all main instruments and their voices have matured to a nice fullness. Last I saw them was individualy in different places, Tumz was the last one I caught up wih. I think they have what it takes to rip up up some good tunes. Very talented, hard training and passionate musicians.
I'm keeping my eye on the horrizon just in case...
Last I saw, Aaron was in a New Zealand library staff newsletter of some sort. He won a Christchurch library NZ Music Month competition. Ironically, the prize was a stack of NZ artist CDs. There was a pic of him and his kid holding said CDs.
I'm pretty positive I keep seeing Clinton Tokona around Wellington, but it might not be him.
I hope they all show up in other projects sometime soon though.
gabe is working in a music shop in melbourne.
clinton den-heyer is owner/manager of good luck at the top of cuba mall in welli and clinton tokona is one of the bar staff there too.
aaron tokona is living and breeding in chch.
the clintons play with the illphonics and some of rikki gooch's ensembles down at good luck on fridays, but i think that's about it... gotta say though, stylus77 do a wicked version of "calling on".
Great band, great album....I still think the Tokona bro's should start a band with their younger brother Tuma! He is one of the phattest drummers I've ever heard. Shits on old Den Heyer...
They would take over I tell ya...
this is a story that shouldnt be remembered but what the hey...
i saw the lead singer i think just after they had released their australian album at the dux in chch. he was real real drunk and was riding high on the fame, he got on the drum kit between bands (just local bands playing.. not weta) and proceeded to entertain the crowd with some whole hearted but extremely ill executed drum rimaleys. it WAS entertaining, but i think one of his friends dragged him off the stage after a while.....
...but but but.....they are all on different paths respectivley. I'm pretty sure Tuma is still drumming for Wgtn reggae outfit "Rainbow Country". They are amazing...beautiful harmonies!!
I can't find it online, but I read an article *somewhere* that said it was more that he was unhappy in the band and was having a bit of trouble coping with living away from home. The song's basically saying "hey dude, things aren't so bad, just stop for a while".

"I stopped going to sound checks, I stopped caring and it was evident in my attitude - I had a really, really foul attitude towards touring. It was like any job one does: if you really love it, if that Previa or Tarago turns up for you to go on tour, you're meant to go, 'Cool, time to go to work'. With me it was like, 'I don't want to do this. I don't want to sit in this car with these people. I don't want to go.' I started resenting being here and I think that attitude started the process and things started to fall apart."

sounds like they all mellowed out and only wanted to be causal musicans now... was it a big fight that drove them apart or something?

The Shihad song "Pacifier" was written by Jon Toogood about/for Aaron Tokona after Jon became concerned for him.
so he has a bit of a vice aye?
