Hi everyone
My name is tracy and i live in auckland.
I'm adicted to music. (whew! Good to finally get that out!) :oP
I would like to start a support network in auckland for all of us here who enjoy music. It's just an idea, i'd love some feedback, so let me know what you all think, and if there's a good response, watch this page and well keep it simple.
Theory goes that we set up an e-mail and everyone who wants to be notified sends me the e-mail address and i put it in. Then when anyone is playing a gig around auckland, or know of someone who is (chch, dun and well, you could all do this too....) e-mail this e-mail we'll make up, and we can send it out to "the support network". Just means you know you'll be guaranteed at least a few people at your gig that arn't family.... and the more we get to know each other, the more we could help each other.
In saying this, i am making a huge assumption that there are no stalkers here, and anyone that would come along to these gigs would take on the responsibility that you bought yourself here and took the chance to meet anyone else that turned up. Point being, can't sue me if you meet someone you dont' like.

Shoud we just make up a yahoo account - aucklandnzmusiciangigs@yahoo.com or somethign like that..... then post it and see if anyone e-mails.... might be good for people like acidjack who are in welly, but want to come up and play possibly - if we know each other we could organise to billet out a band member each or something.
Anyone got any more idea's? What's the point of having this site where we can all talk if not to perhaps try to help each other too - sounds like most of us are in teh same boat - trying to do music.

I don't know what you guys think but i have localoutput.com which was once the label i used to put on shows in Auckland but I no longer use this label and everyone who visits the site knows that the whole local output thing is over.
The website could be used as a place where bands who are signed up to the service could submit their events and news as well as perhaps an unofficial section of the site where rumours and that sort of thing could be posted. Then the content of the website could be emailed out weekly.
At the moment, there are ways sending mass email using the domain so it wouldn't be quite as cheap as yahoo and would sound slightly more official.
You might hate the idea... but maybe not?

The whole point to my thought was to have one central e-mail where we build up an e-mail list of all aucklanders who we trust on here, and then if anyone is doing a gig up here they can e-mail us, and then we just send a mass e-mail to everyone on the list. Make it so only people on there are people who are refered to it or something. Saves every tom dick and psyco stalker turning up....
It's not meant to be anything liek nz music, just a quick easy way to get to everyone who enjoys all this stuff to get one e-mail saying "this week a band is playing at kings arms at blah blah time". Saves us going through a miriad of posts to find out when people are playing - or smaller bands and stuff. Or just if anyone wants to go out clubbing or something.

Not sure how you'd police this - what if some person recommended by another friend turned out to be a freak - would you just strike Koe - I mean - that person off the list and just not tell him? (Or her? if it was a girl?)
It's a nice idea, but for me nzmusic has already proven to be a great way to meet people and organise outings, and we don't really need a weekly email to keep everyone in the loop. Also, it isn't quite as apparent when we just happen to leave Koe - I mean - people - out when we're organising to meet up at the King's Arms.
Honestly - all you have to do is turn up at the KA some time and introduce yourself.

I'm talking based on nz muso's concept which is more local where as nzmusic.com is national, doesn't update the gig guide as much as I would like and has piss all information in the gig guide.. (I've found gigs listed that aren't happening and information advertised that wasn't correct). Nzmusic.com is great generally but all I really use is the forum.
This discussion would work a whole lot better without the idiot comments.

The website I'm talking about would be a way of people updating what was sent out to the email list, so that one person doesn't have to do all the work and write the email themselves or copy and paste other peoples emails telling them about a gig. Does that make sense or sound like nzmusic.com to you?
On the website there would be somewhere where a user could sign up and add their email address so that they are sent the gigs to their inbox. People who sign up also could have the function of adding gigs to be sent out on the mailing list.

Na, i just want to be round people who like music as much as i do, and are great to debate with and stuff. Nice to have a convo with other people who are into music, and have opinions and are actually dealing with other muso's and stuff. (As opposed to friends and family who think they know what / how the music industry works and does stuff). It would be like me advising a war general on the next move to make....
