"legendary performers like Tina Cross, Brendan Dugan, Ray Columbus, John Rowles and Mark Williams"

Oh, please excuse me while I regress into my childhood, and have terrible, horrible flashbacks of bland '80s variety shows.

but they've got Goldenhorse as well!!
Those aren't the only artists that will be on it

I think you are being a little harsh there, Robyn. And your timing is a bit out as well. To my recollection all these perfromers, except, I think. Tina Cross, came to promience in the 70's!! Mark Williams was awesome .... and I think it is safe to say that all the performers mentioned have made a signifcant contribution to the NZ music scene as performers. And not just in "bland '80s variety shows." But in live performance here and overseas and on the various music charts as well. For my money Brendan Dugan has one of the best voices in country music ... worldwide!

WTF? Big Stu, you're making stuff up. I wasn't being harsh. All it was was that list of older performers sparking off a memory of horrible '80s variety shows.

I'm sure "Big Night In" will be nothing like the variety shows of the '80s. (Oh, now I've started thinking about "That's Country" and fear that I may vomit...)

I really liked Tina Cross when I was about five years old. I remember her song "Nothing But Dreams". That was lovely.

by the looks of the shorts alone - this looks like a complete pile of bile. Pio hosting - what would he know about music? It's an insipid attempt at trying to please everyone by having old/new/variety acts which will probably rate well but will be absolutely shit to watch. aaarrrgggghh

let's burn television down - like fight club did to credit cards

And how. While they're at it, why not exhume ol' Pete Sinclair's body and have him do interviews with Shane and the Chicks while they throw in a few "new" acts to keep the kids happy. What a contrived bunch of load. It just looks nasty, with a TV1 variet show feel to it. Look, I have nothing against any of the artists old or new, but it just seems like such a music meets televison show by the numbers. Again.
Nothing like sitting on the preverbial fence. However this is TV1. Knock knock tv execs, It's 2003 now,
loosen up or pass it on for gods sake.

Just saw it, its chessy as hell!!
But Mary & Goldenhorse were thou, Goldenhorse even had a string section with chick who had a mohawk!!

I think Grahan Reid summed it all up in today's Herald.
