Copy Protected CDs

Forums: NZ Music,

I always buy NZ artists CD's just to support them and then i burn another copy for backup because some 1 will probably sypher it hahahaha but I do buy the original. I usually buy all my cd's I only burn if the shops dont have the songs i want. I make mixed cd's but only from the cd's i already have.

good call. sucks to be a kiwi artist and your community dosnt pay for your stuff huh?

It doesn't worry me if it's copy protected. If I like the band, then i'll buy the cd and won't need to copy it.

yep, burning a cd by ur fav artist without buying it legally = ripping them off!!!

I've come accross a few of them. Still, I have no troubles copying them to my computer. Weird huh.

thats true...copy protected cds cannot stop you from copying them onto ur pc...then you can burn cds of them...very weird...

People will always copy/burn/share/ even sell music and as much as that sucks there cant be much done about it... so many times we have seen this in the past, we as consumers are given all the tools to do these illegal things.. DVD writers CDR Recorders and all for under $500 dollars so i dunno it just seems that perhaps the blame is being put in the wrong place to me, dont put people in jail for doing it but perhaps the companys that gave us as consumers the tools to do it in the first place.

We are given fast cars that can go well over the speed limit, Ciggerettes that kill us, Beer and Wine that make us drunk and CDR burners to make copys of music... the control needs to be in the acsess to the tools and the means not a small stepping stone in a digital medium that can be easily over come

What copy protection..your kidding right..no such thing..lololol

What copy protection..your kidding right..no such thing..lololol..you just have to know what to look for..on the disk.

I dunno if I do want to pick em up if their copy protected, since at the moment my comp is my only CD player, so I'm wondering if the copy protected CDs will actually be LISTENABLE on my comp comp haha

And its just inflating the Price of CDs which is pretty rediculous to begin with

Well i dont know about the rest of you, but my best freind was in the NZ music industry.
I say WAS becuase he didn't get much for it. He worked part-time with me at KMart. KMART for gods sake. If you copy CDs and circumvent their source of income your just a nasty person. These people are our freinds and family. Dont cheat them, and show them the respect they deserve for entertaining us.
Go West Auckland!

Oh yeah and i work at Dick Smith. We sell CD writers, and they're designed for DATA, not mp3s. I dont have any MP3s on my laptop, just .wma files from bought CDs. bloddy hell piracy IS a crime.

"Yeah Right"

Copy Protection in my mind is a stupid idea, the fact that it breaks standards by filling up the disc with errors that is.

Whenever I buy a copy protected CD I immediately rip all the tracks to WAV files on the computer (using certain software that can read past the errors - if you don't use this software it may still work but the files you end up with will be lower quality and may possible have glitches and artefacts in them) and burn them to a CD, so that I can still play it on whatever player I choose.

I could, of course, do what my friends suggest - immediately after burning it, take the CD back to the store and get my money back - but that's not the point... I still want the artist to make money, I just want to be able to play my new CD on whatever player I damn well want to.

wat softwares this?

Well, i see everyones point about how not buying a Cd but dl it or burning it off a mate rips off the band and that and how it really hurts the smaller bands, But for a long time ive said that thirty bucks for a Cd is a total rip off too. i dont have a job so geting any CD really hurts my pocket and so i jsut download them or get em off a mate. adn dont diss me about not having a job because A. i dont even hae my learners, and B. i live out in the whops(or waps) by rotovegas.

Who cares as long as you get your music at the end of the day from your favourite artist. I'd rather have exposure than sales if I were an artist for realer.

tru man, any bands first album shud be out there for that, exposure, then, if youve got fans tehy'll buy ur 2nd and 3rd albums too.
