The Mint Chicks

This is the general discussion forum for The Mint Chicks

Forums: Bands,

now they're using their music to sell bread on a tv ad!! thats sad man

Congrats on signing to Flying Nun guys. I keep hearing very positive things all over the place.

That's good news about the band being signed. Well done!

yeeeeeeeessssssss

finally an artist forum for these guys!

yay! cant wait to see these guys live again, they rooock

what do they sound like? Are mint chicks actually in the band?

You will to go and see them!! They are brilliant...Congratulations Guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man! i totally dismissed this band. They are fucking AMAZING!

Take notice before they blow up to be the biggest thing this country has seen.

they are fucking wicked!!! The vocalist is like a spastic fish!!!

Welly show on Sat? hmmm.

did you not like it stefan?

They were ok. not amazing though. more words soonish in another form.

yeah the first time i heard them was after we played on the bfm breakfast bus and they totally went off, i thought we went hard on stage. and they're a really nice bunch of guys too.

You guys rocked out before Two Lane on saturday - like the At The Drive In feel to your stuff (it was the first time i heard you. Plus you had very distinguished guests (dolf from The Datsuns). Rock on...

I'm really looking forward to seeing these guys supporting Whirlwind Heat.

FUCK YEAH! Whirlwind heat and the mint chicks.

so you'd recomend it andoru???

how much are tix to that gig?
White Stripes tickets bankrupted me. Friend in the states said Whirlwind Heat kicked major ass when she saw them open for WS over there though... and I still haven't heard the mint chicks and would very much like to

$80 for white stripes tickest are too fucking much!!! Rammstein maybe, TOOL maybe, metallica maybe, but not white stripes!

thing is, I wouldn't pay more than about $25 to see any of those bands. I still enjoy old tool, but Lateralus left me cold. Rammstein... meh. Metallica... I'm sure $80 would be cheap for a ticket to see them these days. The White Stripes on the other hand, are a band I love, and bands that I love barely ever come to NZ, let alone to where I live. so yeah, couldn't miss it.

i heard that the Dunedin and christchurch gigs are free. hope its true!

If they are playing on a pint night in Dunedin, maybe. But I don't think they are. Isn't it a Thursday, not a Wednesday when they play in Dunners?

Hi all. The b.Nets was the first time I heard The Mint Chicks - in fact, it took some sleuthing to find out it was them playing as I was returning from the bar to see them on stage. I liked it - definately watchable, and very energetic. Cool.

They are quite good live, but ultimately it's only crappy punk rock.... he he he

hehehe, well at least its somthing original. yup.

saw the mint chicks on space for the 1st time last nite and was impressed! these guys rock
does any1 know where to see them play or get any of their songs? cheers 2 all u helpful ppl

Their EP is coming out soon - October....YESS!!!!!!! they are doing a tour with Whirlwind Heat down south this week - check out the Flying Nun Website.

When will the Kitten shut up?!

The Mint Chicks are doing a split 7" with the Whirlwind Heat guys, only available on tour...and the band are releasing their new CDEP in Australia before NZ...and playing Aust with the White Stripes...what? **checks his watch**
They've only been signed to Flying Nun for five minutes and now it's all this! Check the Nun website if'n you don't believe me...

Yes. I saw Whirlwind Heat at the White Stripes - he kicked his shoe off... that was funny - lots of energy too. Liked their matching tees too. Cute.

FUCK!...I saw these guys debut video on space and was blown away. The Mint Chicks play a genre of music that I am passionate about. Havent been this excited about the evolution of nz music for a while...... and if record companies consider this quality,..........well hats of gentleman.
well done.

I must say starting with some disappointing songs last night The Mint Chicks did start to get better later on in their set. Finally some real emotion/energy. The last time they played Wgtn the singer only really seemed alive when a punter joined the stage for a song and instigated a shouting match. However their most recent set they warmed up and played together, with each other and the crowd. Tops.

Knew you would come round Stefan, may i remind you that when you saw them first, they were sick...

are they playing in auckland tonight?

Manamana. Yep!

Kings arms.

With the FUCKING COOLIES!!!!!!!!!!

nice. thanks for that.

So....who else is going?

Im not. Dont have $10.

So if someone wants to pay for me! haha

also i have free tickets to 8ft sativa.

are the coolies good???
i know they played with TLBT and BRMC

fucken nice ep.

To be honest, i wasn't a fan of that live version of The Son (live to air?) that was floating around. but the "studio" recordings sounds great. If anything a little underproduced..but in this case that is a fucken good thing..overproduction kills punk rock, great artwork as well.

sounds mint, while retaining that DIY feel to the recording. I really like "double helix"

agreed
you stole my thunder blink
it is a class recording
although sounding a bit less spastic than when played live it is still a very accomplished album
and the artwork is pretty damn good
i was saying you could tell they had label backing, as the artwork took up four or so pages in full COLOUR ;)

will jump on the praise bandwagon - think the production really really suits it; love the artwork (nice flying nun tradition (chris knox, david mitchell, etc) of musicians doing distinctive art); & yeah, "Double Helix" is k-rad.

tho if I'm correct, according to the liner notes it was only the vocalist & guitarist involved w/recording it & playing all the instruments? odd, tho of course there's nothing wrong w/it . . .

oh yeah, & check out the website - the video for "Licking Letters"! & nice design, too.

All their own artwork too, which is even better! '' ohhh BLUE TEAM GO!''

bfm live-to-air fuckin' fab!

Final verdict: Good live show, crazy stunts, average music, so i wouldn't waste my money on their album.

Licking Letters is fucking orgasmic.
Niiiiice work.

It reminds me heaps of Fugazi, which is no bad thing at all.

a rather severe case of the Wish-They-Were-At_The_Drive-In's.
Missed the boat by about 7 years.
better luck next time.

haha I now request that every mention of the datsuns/d4/slavetrader/etc be prefaced with "missed the boat by thirty years".

do the standing still ]

A lot of people are still in to At The Drive In.

actually, after relistening to my copy of /EMOR (rome spelled upside down)/, I'm picking up more of a les savy fav vibe.
pity they don't have keyboards, tho.
