The Tokey Tones

This is the general discussion forum for The Tokey Tones

Forums: Bands,

The band looks good, but man their audience...! What a bunch of hotties.

I went to the Tokey Tones / Brunettes gig on 15th Nov and I really liked them both. The Tokey Tones were a six piece band on the night, which meant they got quite a lush sound (including lots of backing vocals from almost the whole band). They did a cover of Kaleidoscope World by The Chills which made me happy.

Being the night of the big game, this was sort of a gig for people who don't watch the rugby. Yeah.... the audience were pretty hot now that I think about it. I can't say I've ever been tempted to go to Amba before this. I know they have jazz all the time, but do they actually consider themselves a live music venue in general?

They've become astoundingly better live. Wish "Moon & So On" sounded as good on record as it did live => that factor + the possibility of a "Kaleidescope World" cover might suck me along to their next few gigs.

SUMMER SERIES - Albert Park

Due to parking issues I missed most of their set - but friends told me it was lovely.

I only saw the last few songs and it *was* lovely, although apparently the second half of the set was the slack half. Personally I really love that whole Damon Gough-esque lacksadaisical attitude toward performing. Every gig I've seen (OK - granted there haven't been that many) has been - well, absolutely lovely, but liberally punctuated with apologies.

Apparently the Tokey Tones are now defunct, but I guess that just means that Scott & Li Ming will go work on some different stuff under a different name with some different people.

In closing, I would like to state that there should be more bands like the Tokey Tones - it's lovely to just forget about loud thrashy music, industry politics and arguments about selling out, and just sit back with a nice beverage for an afternoon. The Tokey Tones are what summer should be all the time. Yeah.

hi i was wondering whether the beautiful polaar had slipped off the face off the earth.i am going to record a version of forevershade because that song remains one of the true nz pop gems. i really want a copy of that song.how do i get a hold of the polaar songs.i love what you do scott as plasticene and as part of the ethereal tokey tones.i hope you can email me at jeretich@hotmail.com so we can talk about getting some tunes played on my radio show.maybe you could even get down to wellington at some point and record a live-to-air on the show.
