Based on a wee discussion in the studio today, a new topic rears it's ugly head....
Many years ago before I branched out into a more broad range of music tastes, I did the old classic of lining up at a CD store at midnight for a 'world first' release type thing. I believe it involved a bad album by The Cult, me getting the second disc handed out, and the boxes of CD's arriving on Harley's. Phwoor.!
Just wondering if anyone else would care to relive similar vacuous retail moments. What bands/albums have you lined up for?

haha i lined up from about 4am last time faith no more graced our shores, outside sounds queen st (auckland), because there was a first come first served thing where if you bought AOTY you got a backstage pass to the show, the crazy thing is, even at 4am, i was still only 2nd in the queue, the guy who was there ahead of me was also flying to wellington to see them there, crazy
i wasn't unhappy about buying it again because i originally got the euro special edition with the remixes and b-sides, this was the australasian special edition with different remixes on a seperate CD - bonus! i probably would have got it anyways :D
i "sort of" lined up for goldenhorse's album and cloudboy's last effort, but i did it over the net, wasn't really expecting sounds to have either of them
and i've had media copies of both of tomahawk's albums, and tom waits' alice & blood money - which i *would* have lined up for had i not received them weeks before the release date ... but i don't think that really counts
kind of unrelated but i bought demarnia lloyd's trace ep off noizyland last year, and i have to say, nzm user #16 was exceptionally polite and efficient, what a guy!

actually, may 11 '93 - lined up outside another record store on queen street for a faith no more signing, got my angel dust tape signed, then went and watched that star trek movie ... uh ... the undiscovered country or something like that?
and in my teenage idiocy also lined up behind the logan campbell centre after the '95 show to meet & greet again ...
i'm probably the only person in NZ to have a signed copy of imperial teen's first album, and there can't be many who have patton's solo projects signed ...
jesus i was a fanboy
but then again i've only got 3 bootlegs, so maybe not

actually i remember that! that must have been about 13 years ago dude! i wasn't there but from memory it was on nightline, when nightline was still kind of kooky and left of center, and tv3 was new and exciting, how funny!

I lined up outside Echo Records in Dunedin to get the Prodigy's "Fat of the Land" and the free tshirt that came with it. I wasn't a big fan, I think I was just tagging along.
When Elle MacPherson toured NZ promoting her new range of underwear I wagged school for an afternoon and hung around at Arthur Barnetts so I would be in a prime position to see her. By the time the lingerie show started there were hundreds of people crammed into the store. On the cover of ODT the next day my face was obscured by Mike Alexander's elbow so I was not busted for wagging. Perfect.

i lined up for amnesiac and battle of los angeles.
bit of a waste really as i don't really like either album. very much purchases based on love and reputation.
i also got the free t-shirt with fat of the land. but the hutt didn't have midnight openings, so i got it during study period in the morning. mr williams was not impressed.

So did I! Manners Mall? Wasn't far up enough in the queue to get the limited edition thing. Me and my flatmate were both there, and both bought a copy, and both went home and listened to our own copies. And I love the album too, so no regrets.
//i also got the free t-shirt with fat of the land. but the hutt didn't have midnight openings,
I went to a midnight opening in Upper Hutt (still part of the hutt, dude - Haha!) for the Fat Of The Land. Got my t-shirt. Liked a couple of tracks, then got really into it, then really sick of it.
I also lined up for Pearl Jam's Yeild album...

One day, in a fit of Irony (by the way, "I'm reviewing it" is now the new "I'm doing it ironically") me and two of my friends went to True Bliss's record signing at New Lynn. I got so caught up in the moment that I even bought their cd. The band were quite suprised to see us, given we were head and shoulders over everyone else. My friend Olivia made us push to the front of the line, and we nearly had our heads kicked in by Westie Parents. It was a great day.

Well a whole bunch of people I know lined up from midnight to get pearl jam tickets. I couldn't be fagged, so the next afternoon I stroll down to ticketek, I'm the only person in the whole shop. I buy myself a couple of tickets and I'm out of there in less than 5 minutes. Then I didn't even end up using them, gave them to some mates. what a wanker.

thats exactly the way i feel about movie premieres, haha, bugger seeing stinky star wars at midnight
when LOTR 1 came out, my friend was all excited cos he'd gotten tickets to the opening and it was sold out blah blah blah, i couldn't be bothered, then i got drunk later that night, another friend called at about 1am and said "hey wanna go to LOTR?" "sure!" said i, and we went to the 2am showing, the theatre was nearly empty, it was fan-f'ing-tastic
