NZ'S BEST DRUMMER?

GOT ANY FAVOURITE NZ DRUMMERS? WHO? I'd have to say Karl from the Illusive Ones and Tony from Saliva Twist was great but he left.

Forums: NZ Music,

Kat Millar from Foamy Ed.

personally ive never seen her live but i hear shes a fuck off drummer. id also like to add that really hot drummer from Feeder...yum

//that really hot drummer from Feeder

which one?? none of girls in the video are the real drummer
The old drummer killed himself

oh, i didnt know that, but shes hot!

Kat is a pretty good drummer! i love her amazing intro for overload

Karl Fitzpatrick is my favourite drummer!

Any drummer who doesn't drool while they play

michael from rawer

I second this nomination; best fucking drummer in the country, bar none.

any drummer that is better than me, which would be millions

can't take it away from Rene Harvey - Cripple, he's sickeningly good!

If only someone could tame him.

Simon Nunn from 'The Steffan Van Soest Hit Machine'

i'll second that.

Third that. The guy's a fuckin' machine...

I knew a guitarist with the same name..could be the same guy he was one of those musical prodegy types, if it is him i'll bang the hammer and pass the motion!

Si plays guitar like a hell-spawned rock devil, so I'd imagine it's the same guy.
Put my vote down for Mister Nunn as NZ's finest rock drummer...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The best drummer in New Zealand is Paul Russell. He was drummer for Supergroove and was in Che Fu's backing band for a while. He now plays drums in "Eight".

omg OMG bet me by 2 freakin minutes!

yes listen to Traction & the b-sides of SuperGroove songs, good funky drumming there!!

i'm not sure he was in on the Traction era songs ? didn't Supergroove go thru three drummers ... when i saw Eight i thought his talents were kinda wasted actually. he has a great range of styles and seems damned precise without being at all soul-less in his precision.

just checked the booklet, it says Paul - Drums

That che - fu / eight/ anika mao(lol mao) /old supergroove guy is my personall favourite.
o0o0o o0o and ol' redford from Shapeshifter - he's real flash.

Chris O'Connor. He used to play for Syzergy and the Jonothan Crayford Trio.

Also Darren Mathiassen from Trinity Roots

totally agree on chris. also phil more (drumphil) whos now in greece driving tour buses. and ricki gooch - accelerants. and brendan moran of hasselhoff infamy...

//Also Darren Mathiassen from Trinity Roots
oml yes................. saw him one night at the phat club..................... he just went mental........
and the absolute bonus was tama from mother guru in support on a hand drum...........

yes!! Chris has this instinctive intuitive thing going on, he blew me away playing with TRoots at Refuel in Dunedin.

my mate matt.
he's a monsta with monsta hands.

mike franklin brown is pretty fucking good

Aaron Reilly of Indicator Dogs

He is amazing!

Should've seen that one comming!

..almost predictable as your reply eh?

Hahaha

Damn you and your come-back! I'll get you, and your little dog too!

sorry guys... this ones mine too

Brent from BailterSpace.

Best drummer in the world.

aye ... i'd suspect him of being an android/computer/metronome if his playing wasn't so goddamn stirring and appropriate and moving.

michael franklin browne [former HLAH] - seen him in many drum clinics, fantastic drummer.
and also Mark from subtract is pretty fucking good.

//seen him in many drum clinics

yeah he done one down here, it was wicked!!

he's also in Pluto now

nahhhhhh hes a shadow of Hideebeast...
you listen to head like a hole's earlier stuff and you can notice the difference hidee just makes himself heard, he's got class to burn
but michael franklin browne is nothign to hidee

yeah that guy was pretty badass

Frank Gibson Jnr

End of debate

he runs a drum shop right??

Yes and no ... he is certainly involved with "Frank Gibson's Drum City" ... it was his dad's shop originally. But I don't think he runs it as such. He does give lessons there though. He also teaches Jazz history at Auckland Uni. And plays a fair bit around town ... mainly jazz ... but also a lot of session work ...

He also contibutes a column to the NZ Musician Magazine.

If you ever get the chance to see him perform do so ... I guarantee you will be inspired.

yeah frank jr is definitly good, not really my style though, too jazzy for me. but he is great at wat he does.

My pick would be Gary Sullivan ex of JPSE...

Though I have a soft spot for the drumming skills of George Chadwick :-P

Hmm... don't know many drummers names.

The dude from HDU is great. The dude from the Accelerants is great. The dude playing with The Chills was a fucken riot.

And as for technical drumming... Chris from Acid Jack (And formerly in Selling Hope/Wishbone) is very good.

... and George... and Scott... :)
