If you have a KaZaA Username....

You are fucked now....

The RIAA are slapping you with subpoenas, so if you are on this hit-list you better go underground Sadaam Hussain styles.

Forums: The Bar,

Also there is this thing called "The Authors, Consumer and Computer Owners Protection and Security Act of 2003" - known as the Accops Act - carries penalties of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for uploading a copyrighted file to a peer-to-peer (P2P) network.

Now when your in prison, and you have a conversation that goes...

"What you in for Cuz?"
"File Sharing"

You know you're picking up the soap for the next five years.

it'd probably be a case of "File sharing ? Me too.. and this guy.. and that guy.." heh you'd have at least 10% of the internet-enabled world incarcerated.

What, so if you just download the songs, but don't make them available for other people to upload then you're not screwed right?

Sorry, i mean: If you don't upload a file for other people to download, then you're nore screwed right?

You'll get your hand slapped, but those uploading dudes are screwed.

Man, the only reason I use it is to check out songs from albums that I have an interest in buying.
If I don't like it and don't buy it, I usually delete it.

is this world wide or just in the US??

i dunno, but RIAA is american tho ... i'd like to see them prove anything along these lines under new zealands copyright law. . ...

The site said that the RIAA are issuing so many hundred or whatever subpoenas throughout the US, so I gather it's "only in america" just like so many other things.

sweet!! thank god most of us don't live in the US then

heheh.. I wonder if free mp3 artists are entitled to a cut of this theoretical money... after all we are somewhat supporting the RIAA's attempted revenue gathering.

253 * 250,000US = $126,500,000 NZ maximum. I bet that's a drop in the fucking ocean compared to what the majors are still making off CD sales. but then again I am rather stupid, so I may be wrong.

there's a damn good book about napster, iuma/mp3.com, p2p and etcetera:
"Sonic Boom: Napster, MP3, and the New Pioneers of Music" by John Alderman
as always with the internet and publishing, the book is slightly obsolete in light of newer stuff but it's a good insight into the beginnings..

Did anyone notice this username on the list?

www.k_lite.tk_Kazaa_Lite@Kazaa

From memory that's any user who is using the stripped back software available www.k_lite.tk ... :) I may be entirely wrong, but it'll be funny if it is. Doh.

Yeah, there is heaps of Kazza_lite users all over.

word of warning: DO NOT Use kazaa, it sthe closest thing to legitimised hacking u can get - my sister downloaded some songs on wednsday night and imported a SAVENOW program which i had removed from the system and now this SAVENOW Hs caused my comp to go haywire, ive sent them an e-mail bomb containing threats of 'dire punishment' and a 3 page rant on how they fucked up my comp, i removed the SAVENOW trojan but it has caused some after-effects which will take till at least tomorrow to fix.

oh i forgot to add my link hexplaining the issue

er, are you serious ? i was joking !

Use kazza lite. Or download ad aware from lavasoft.

of course if you use k-lite, in the setup if you read the agreement (near the top) the 1st rule so to speak tells you "installing this software is ILLEGAL" and then it goes on with other rights and reserves etc.

i have used it a few times cause no adds, and you can delete it in seconds. with none of this kazaa bs that everyone goes on about

Yep that SAVENOW thing happened to my comp too last yr, made everything freeze a lot and screwed up some other stuff too. anyway it's gone now so all good :)

I think if you use the latest version of kazaa lite it has a function which blocks other people being able to see what files you have (incl. RIAA). If you 'disable file sharing', you should be a bit safer. (I think)
I'm not sure what the RIAA can do to overseas users, but it'll be much trickier for them to prosecute.

i am at my cousins house right now and he has kazaa. Don't you think list is rather pathetic when at this moment there 4 025 518 users on kazaa. That would be only a small part of kazaa world aswell. lol that is some list they got
