MIKE RECKONS...

gabis' topic won't get many posts as many of you don't even know big star... he is ever the pessimist

Forums: The Bar,

wasn't that alex chilton's band? and didn't they write i am the cosmos, holocaust and kangaroo, which were all covered by 4AD experimental collaboration "This Mortal Coil?"

kangaroo is one of my favourites, though i have to admit i'm not too familiar with their stuff, same era / feel as tim buckley weren't they?

hi this is raphael... flag tmc- go for sister lovers- wasn't it howard devoto singing kangaroo?- he massacres it- same era as tim yes- completely different tho- start of 70's power pop on 1st 2 albums- moody slop pop on 3rd- sister lovers

hiya raphy, missed the last auck voom show - did you go?

anyway - the server ate my reply but it was basically along the lines of:

big star's versions are better, though jeff buckley doing kangaroo is pretty good (that and the tmc refs are what fuelled my tim buckley reference)

and finally - will look out for sister lovers

it wasnt really worth writing that out again

nice subtle trolling...

FWIW, I've met one New Zealander who listens to Big Star. Well, one person who has told me they do. It's not me... never heard them. Have heard the This Mortal Coil tracks if that is the band.

Random aside to Grimmybug's comment: I hate the fact that 'Starsailor', the Tim Buckley album with 'Song to the Siren' on it, is the only album of his I can't find. I love that song. A friend who's a bit of a Cocteaus Twin fan described Tim as sounding like a sick cow in comparison to Liz Fraser's efforts, but never mind. ;)

raphy again... read your post to lena- says god will make your friend shit through the nose like a sick buffalo for being so totally devoid of clue- she taped me a copy of starsailor- can't say i play it heaps

hey i like big star.
i also like how on the album, it just has a write up on how disfunctional they all were as a band. dont much like the cover that was done for 'that 70's show" -the original is a lot hookier, but i guess that goes without saying.

reminds me of that sad time time in the morning when its too late to go to bed, to early to go out, the birds have started fucking singing, and the sky is getting grey... your head is sore and rinsed from yesterdays acid, and everyone else is in their own rooms feeling exactly the same.

I've heard Teenage Fanclub. Does that count?

yes!
bandwagonesque.
the one about the metal girl
sweeeet.

(sneakily projects own guilt onto innocent bystander)

always comes back to frank black with you doesn't it noizy?

*cough*
