Anyone heard them yet? Norwegian band. First I thought they were just another nu-metal band; after a few bars they sounded like they were trying to simultaneously revive the gothic and 80s hair metal eras. There seem to be at least three guitarists, the song is over-full of little soaring guitar bits and a heavy-handed string section, and their new song which sounds like they've taken a Sisters of Mercy song and put it through some OTT Krautrock formula is delicately titled "Fuck the World".
For some reason I really like them.

The only reason I know of them was because one of their videos was on Space the other week; I've also heard it played a couple of times on bFM. I assume that means they're intended to be the Next Big Thing.
The video was introduced with examples of other musicians waxing lyrical about how they're the best band in the world. The song started and I thought "oh god, more bloody nu-metal", but the longer I watched the more I liked it. They're a caricature, but they do it really well. More gothic than Andrew WK, more fun than Marilyn Manson.

ok. turbonegro are the worst band ever. those people they quoted on space never said they actaully liked them... they said things like 'wow these guys are fucked up', and 'i had to stop after the cucumber, but that guy with the sailor hat on fitted the entire rider up there'.

Anyway, my bad, it was never my intention to suggest that Andrew WK was at all gothic. However, if Turbonegro is gothic and Andrew WK isn't, then following the strictest logic, Turbonegro is most certainly more gothic than Andrew WK.
