FOLK IMPLOSION!!!!

a small alas, but he's touring on his lonesome for the NZ leg. i don't have the latest Folk Implosion album, but i have a couple of the others (aren't there only a couple? i say that as he's damned prolific and more than likely their albums number in the teens) and i hear the latest is just incredible.

i'm lucky enough to see him both in Dunedin and Auckland!!! whooo hoooo!

A nice welcome home present for me, it seems. I'll see you there.

I've only heard a little of the Folk Implosion but what I have heard is oh so good.

cool!!!
he was in Dinosaur Jr too

Cool- I have a tape dub of the album before last, and I've just heard the new album. Folk Implosion are an awesome band, apparently they now have Sebadoh's new drummer (as heard on Sebadoh's 'The Sebadoh'). Just quietly though, I'm getting a little bit of listening fatigue with these guys; Lou's singing voice is starting to grate on me... time for a little bit of distance. I'm on a Seb/Folk Implosion diet untill he plays Wellington!

what, not covering "Rebound" again then? ;) Seriously though YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

If only J.Lo(ewenstein) could make it over as well ... "At Sixes & Sevens" was one of my fave albums from last year - and foetusboy, at the very least, knows how much I adore his Sebadoh tracks ...

Jason changed the way i looked at playing bass. on bakesale, at least, he was using a lot of strange note combinations, a lot of discordant arrangements - knocked me out of just sticking to complimentary keys and notes.

iluvetheclean - snap dude, both on loving the clean but exactly on your description of the influence of mr loewenstein's distortion tone and use of (dis)chords. i never played my bass the same after bakesale. wicked wicked bass player.

Nice - First J.Mascis and now Lou Barlow. This year really has been kind to me.

I hope Lou Barlow is more interesting than J Mascis.

???

Well firstly it didn't help that he sat down meaning I had to crane my neck to see anything. Secondly most of his songs involved hitting that pedal or whatever to get that distortion thing going. He did have some really good moments but I guess I was expecting to be spellbound more.

I personally think those WERE the spellbinding moments!

Yeah when it worked. After a while it got sort of repetitive.

Is it true that you know me and I know you?

and are you in my building?

any reports?

just saw Lou up the street near Real Groovy. squealed internally like a fangirl and grinned inanely too.

Dunedin gig was fanbloodytastic. real nice relaxed reverant atmosphere. great lite-fingered guitaring from Lou ... interesting 4 string setup ... awesome voice control ... some great great stories, a lot of old Sebadoh and a lot from Bakesale in particular. not a lot of solo - released stuff, but a lot of new new songs. liked "Mary" and the day-kitty song. he got very drunk in the last 1/4 of the gig and it got all confessional but the quality never lagged.
