Treasure hunt!

Alright, kiddies!
Whoever can tell me the albums the following songs are from, and where I can buy them, wins a prize! Wa-hay!

Restless - Fuce
Breathe - JPS Experience
Straight Into Your Arms - Heavy Jones Trio
Overblown - Augustino
New Dog - Marystaple
You drink the water, I'll drink the wine + Might as well get used to it - Dead Flowers
Coming Back Home - Black Seeds

I've looked in the stores here in Auckland a fair bit, but can't find any of these songs. If you've seen them somewhere, or have a decent copy you're willing to flog off, let me know - help me give all my money to nz musicians!

Forums: NZ Music,

//Restless - Fuce

My friend has the little E.P/single/whatever the damn thing is, I'll see what I can do.

if worst comes to worse i think that one is on that nz heat seakers cd thingy. That came with an issue of some magazine (sorry i don't often buy magazines)

//i think that one is on that nz heat seakers cd thingy

I bought that issue of RIU simply to get the Fuce track on that CD... while the guy at RG was putting the zine in a bag for me to trot along with, I was staring into space, and didn't ask about the CD. Got home and found out there WAS no CD. I emailed RG to ask if they had a copy as I didn't get one, they said "sorry, someone else must have nicked of with it - we don't have any left" so they sent me a crap Rolling Stone one instead.

Long story short - didn't get the CD, don't know anyone who has it, but will buy it from anyone willing to part from it now!

I have that Heat seekers cd! But I wanna keep it.
I could always burn it for ya though.

ive got restless on my comp :) do ya want it??? :D

Why don't you just buy the EP "Life in Africa" from the band themselves on their website?
Or e-mail them.

Newdog by Marystaple is on the Reset Speed ep ... available at smokecds.com

Both Dead Flowers songs are on their self-titled album, I'm pretty sure it's still available through Warner Music.

// Breathe - JPS Experience

This was originally released as an EP preceeding the Bleeding Star album. The EP contains - Breathe, Up In the Sky (Non Album Track), Kickback (None Album Track) and Block (On the album, different mix here though). A great EP allround, IMHO probably one of the best ever released - but apparently I'm biased.

It's also available on the album Bleeding Star - which you should be able to get from most of the 'mega stores'.

:-)

Sorry just realised that wasn't very useful to your questions... I don't know Auckland really, but I imagine your best bet would be checking stores which do 2nd hand for a copy of the Breathe EP - failing that if you have a credit card there are a number of sites online which you should be able to order it from.

No, actually, Scott, no one I know can tell me anything about JPSE... so all info given is greatly appriciated! The Flying Nun doco on Z this morning shed some light too - cheers for the comment.

...and it freaks me out that you post right after c0tter...I know a guy whose name is Scott Cotter. Hmm.

Ahhh such a pity... JPSE were a great band... recorded they tended to come acoss as large slabs of bueatiful sonic pop - live they tended to come across as feedback wailing wall of noise guitar pop... just great...

Bleed Star (and the Breathe era stuff) is the easiest to get into - they had a decent production budget at that time... My Favorite is 'The Size of Food', their second album - much less well produced but lovely anyway, some strange uses of noise in the album too... great singles such us Elemental and Shadows and the rumbling love song Inside and Out...

The first album ' Love Songs' is more of a lo-fi approach to music, when they we're far less sure about play... has an almost childlike feel on some tracks, and more blues/soul on others... Spawn the kiwi-classic 'Flex' and the kid-happy 'I Like Rain'...

Check out the site I've included below... But most of all check out their recordings - try the Flying Nun site, and some overseas vendors stock their material.

Hope you like them, I grew up on them...

I'm a big JPSE fan but only have the Bleeding Star Album, which I think is fantastic. I saw them live several times and they were amazing. I've just purchased the re-release of their self-titled album from smokecd.com and wish to get a copy of 'The Size of Food' which I believe is currently out of print. Would you have any idea which used Music shops that would possibly stock this? I would be grateful if you could provide some names of shops so I could contact them as many smaller 2nd hand shops don't have websites. I live in the outback of Western Australia, nearest music shop is 200km away which only stocks mainstream shite so accessability to more obscure sounds is difficult. Any help would be most appreciated.

I think that the Heavy Jones Trio had an EP out on BMG that has sold out or been deleted or whatever. I downloaded 'Straight Into Your Arms' from their website a year and a bit ago I think, but their site no longer exists. I think they're trying to get signed now so hopefully that'll come to fruitition and you'll be able to get ahold of it then.

the heavy jones trio song is off their ep (self titled) and I suspect its also on one of the BRAT compilation cds (i think the bride of one0

Overblown is gonna be on the forthcoming album around august called "In One All".

PS: dont quote me on this till then.

Who told you that?

Some guy from Augustino.

Who, and when did he tell you that?

Your favourite guitarist a week or two ago on Channel Z when he brought in some music including "In and Out of Nowhere" to play around 2pm.

OK, no worries...just comparing rumour dates and sources. Last I heard, Overblown won't be on the album (BTW - title is One Day Over). The video and the mp3 are on their website, although I think you have to stream them - no downloads available any more.

saw a copy of jpse's ep with the song you want at the real groovy cdingle sale bin- $4- chch 4-piece- part of the post chills 2nd wave of nz- flying nun hopefuls- along with 3d's & the straitjacket fits- broke up cos of arguments about intellectual property ¿i think?- did quite well- their material has a 3-4:10 hit to miss ratio- later offshoots- solid gold hell- superette- stereobus- lankey- dimmer- i think dave mulcahy is working eponymously now- still play grey parade often
