and it was good. surprise, surprise.
Liking Braile and the last number.
Now if I can figure out some way so that these guys can follow me around and be the soundtrack to me life it would be great and comical.
keep your ears open, i here these guys have been recording over the last couple of days, should be something around town within a few weeks.... u guys rulz, the drummers my favourite, does anyone know who he is?
The Inkling at the Carter Observatory (WGTN) with Dukes of Leisure on Saturday night: transcendental. Osaka attempting to howl to the moon: heavenly. Added a needed dynamic to their sound. The overall feel of the gig in such an intimate space was like being told magical bed-time stories. Talk about travel "out there" and "in the beyond".
Saw you guys at Creation the other night, and it blew my little socks off! Loved that whole funky jazzy morphy crazy fluid motion thing going on! Twas brilliant!
yes there are ok
everyone was cool bar the guitarist who is too good looking to be in such a good band.
smooth drumming
first time I'd seen a floor full of dancers digging on fucked time signatures
Hey guys, it's Davids 'Aussie Sara' here. I don't know if you guys actually check this or if it is just about you but I thought I would give it a shot. Just wanted to say well done with everything thats going on, David sent me some stuff about the website, it looks amazing. Give my love to Angie!
sweet sweet late night gig at cabaret on saturday ! had to miss the bodega show and was so happy to hear you were playing again ! look forward to the album release and play again soon please !
Scored a promo when in Wellington and I'm enjoying it. It is a bit too ... musicianly? ... progressive? ...noodly? for my tastes, but it's definitely a very well put together album, with a lot of variety. I was surprised to hear a song in the middle of it all, likewise the track that suddenly flips into a fairly high paced skank for maybe all of 20 seconds before drifting off elsewhere again.
That song (haven't got the CD on me right now) would actually probably go down with the acid jazzers - yr Giles Peterson fans, or closer to home, Sugar Licks and so on - which is sorta amusing given the more "difficult" content elsewhere.
I'm waiting for the reviews packed with comparisons to Tortoise. It's a lazy point of comparison, but no doubt it'll happen.
Oh yeah, Stefan mentions the accordion up thread - my favourite track on there has a slightly rustic gypsy vibe, with accordion and a nicely out of tune piano line and (no surprise for those who know me) steady rhythm section.
Yeah, I wasn't trying to say it makes no sense, but the Inkling's album has classical (i.e. acoustic) guitar, some odd prog metal guitar stabs, and no evidence of liking dance music...

thoroughly enjoyed the gig last night guys, awesome ~thank you! pity about the amount of crowd noise but that's an ongoing frustration of mine (it's particularly bad at Indigo for some reason) and one I can thankfully pretty much block out with earplugs..... great to hear the bass and keys right up in the mix, not often you hear bass so prominently ~ loving it. bought the album at the gig ~a steal at $20 and have already listened through a few times. nice, very nice indeed. you guys playing again sometime soon ? hope so! (i must admit it's rather amusing to observe folks trying to dance to frequently changing time signatures, myself included....teehee.....but i love it, wish more bands would explore more than just 4/4......)
Sorry about the lack of a website.. there'll be one up at [ www.theinkling.org ] real soon.. It's version 1.0 of 2.0.. It's got a contact form and some pretty roll-overs.. version 2 will be somewhat more entertaining.
