Dude I'm suprised you didn't get your camera taken off you. Last week I was forced to show the cop what was on my video tape or he would arrest me. He suspected I had filmed him... as far as I know, it's not against the law to film someone, even cops.

It seems there were quite a few crowded shows in Auckland over the weekend eh?

from the volume of cameras about (incl video) I suspect there is lots of footage of the whole sorry affair...

rumours today are that it will be Paradise Lost as they are to be closed down!
can anyone confirm this?

// rumours today are that it will be Paradise Lost as they are to be closed down!

NOOOOOOO!!! i was just starting to like that venue.

yeah, it will be closed down, last night fire dept came, took photos and shortly after cops came to shut it down.

man i went there for the first time on friday night...

But how full was it on Saturday night? I was at the Dogs Bollix Thursday night and it was jammed full.. there was no room in the entire venue!

but.... but..... what about the kiss and make up club this thursday night?

paradise hasnt closed down ,they are only allowed 60 people in the venue on saturday there were 150 or so people thats why we got kicked out.

it said on the news that the fire limit is 50 people and that the bar didn't know that it was 50 until the cops turned up on Saturday night.

They also said that the bar is thinking of closing down because they feel there is no way they will be able to make money if they can only allow 50 people inside.

I find it hard to believe they don't know their limit. Isn't it usually on that building certificate thing they have to display (and also the usual cause of queues outside nightclubs because they're at their fire limit, not because they don't want more punters?????).

yeah was anyone from that nite video taping the cops abusing people .if so can you please reply as soon as my mates need evidents that the cops were being fuck heads.
cheers sweet D

it was on tv3 news tonight... ask them.

They should have raw footage too....

In the shots they showed it looked like quite a few people had cameras....

yeah, i definitely saw Matt Heath having problems with the police ... it all looked very dodgy. as the police had got people out onto the footpath from the venue, i thought that would be the end of the issue. interesting ...

Sounds like a pretty sweet show to me.

Police shut overcowded K Rd bar

30.04.2003 5.04 am By WAYNE THOMPSON

Police shut down a Karangahape Rd bar after Auckland safety inspectors said it was dangerously overcrowded, with more than five times its legal limit of patrons.

More than 250 patrons were moved out of the Paradise Bar and Restaurant in St Kevin's Arcade at 1am on Saturday.

Auckland City Council building inspector Jason Wang said he and Fire Service safety inspectors made a random check at 12.15am and were alarmed at what they saw.

A steel gate at ground-floor level was shut although it was the only means of escape in a fire. Patrons were drinking alcohol in areas forbidden by the licence and "security personnel" were drinking and intoxicated.

"The bar manager was certainly not in a position to control the situation, and in order to reduce the overall patron number to a manageable level police assistance was requested," said Mr Wang.

The council was considering prosecuting the licence holders of the premises.

Bar owner Yong Cheng Duan said last night that his premises were safe.

Indications are that the bar is still running and gigs still happening - The Coolies said that they are still playing there on Friday.
I don't know what the story will be with a limited capacity.
I think it might just be a matter of the addition of an alternative fire exit?

I am sure Insomnia when it was at the same venue had more than 50 punters a night?

Huzzah!
Hopefully they won't close it down, it'll be one less venue, and with the rise of the 'pay to play' venue (Dogs Bollix, Kings Arms) well you get the idea.

So it was the bar manager who called the police, after the fire service came then?

Geekboy, what's the deal with fucking around with the photos so much? it doesn't give any decent indication of what the photo is of.

i'm ravin because i'm hopin you still have clear photos of what happened at that show, because there are people who need evidence like that to prove there was excessive police force, for the courts

visit punkas.com please go to the message board, and visit the posts under the Reviews and Upcoming Events sections about the show, and contact these people.

if it's alright with you, i'm going to refer them to your website, so they can contact you

Fur Boy
I regret that my pics really wouldnt illustrate any evidence of excessive force and would not be useful to those concerned i am afraid.
I am sure those with videos on the night captured things though
I wish all those requiring evidence the very best of luck though, my views of the actions on that night are recorded at my site.
cheers

...'random check?' what rubbish...

//in order to reduce the overall patron number to a manageable level police assistance was requested...

...didn't they end up closing the place that night? So the 'managable level' was nobody there?

Rage, rage against the dying of the light...
