"worst decade EVER" - that is for music. if youd call most of the stuff "music", if call it filth or "pre-packaged noise"

Awww, come on....surely you don't think Josh Homme should be electrocuted many times, flayed, tied up with piano wire and dragged behind a ute before being made to dig his own grave and then impaled on a meathook, do you?? I think he single-handedly makes up for all the Steena Ugly-leerer clones in the US.

Surely there's only as much shit now as there's ever been...

PS Nice placard on your profile.

creepy deja vu ...

well my idea of punishment was not mentioned on this post but however i was pointing out that the best years for music was on course 1966 - 1975, of course music peaked in '75 then began its horrible downturn in the 80's, rising again in the early 90's only to crash back to an all time low today.....

and BTW who is josh homme???

//and BTW who is josh homme???

Dude... where have you been?

I believe I have said this before... GET OUT OF THE HUTT!

//best years for music was on course 1966 - 1975, of course music peaked in '75 then began its horrible downturn in the 80's, rising again in the early 90's only to crash back to an all time low today.....
90% of everything is crap (A quote from some guy who was quoted by my friend recently,) so the level of good stuff has probably stayed at around about the same level throughout the ages. It is just a question of what you hear.

//and BTW who is josh homme???

ginger head guy from Queens Of The Stone Age

// so the level of good stuff has probably stayed at around about the same level

i agree, everyone knows 99 luftbalons and no-one knows antiworld, yet they're both by the same artist

Yeah... I thought that the 80s music sucked... then I had a look.

The Pixies, Nick Cave, Slint (well... 1989,) Big Black, The Violent Femmes (omigod they're coming!!!,) The Go-Betweens, Thrill Kill Kult, lots and lots and lots...

pixies were pretty much 89 as well :) although it could be argued that the 80's didn't stop till about 92

hell yeah violent femmes! i can't wait!

niceguyeddie: everything on your list rocks, steve albini is a crazy mofo, shellac - prayer to god, love it.

hmm in hindsight i didn't really make much of a point with the nina hagen thing, what i meant to point out was that a lot of stuff gets overlooked, regardless of being good or not. you're not going to know everything about music in your generation, so it's even less likely that you'll know the good hard to find stuff from another.

Oooh... just realised that Repeater was released in '89... so there you go. Fugazi are cool.

//The Pixies, Nick Cave, Slint (well... 1989,) Big Black, The Violent Femmes (omigod they're coming!!!,) The Go-Betweens, Thrill Kill Kult, lots and lots and lots...

Great list there (except I've never really liked the Violent Femmes, don't know why), but why is is that everyone always leaves off the guitar-slingingest band to ever exist... The Stray Cats? They were fucking geniuses! And I don't think you can mention Nick Cave without also mentioning the Pogues.

Yeah... just heard the Stray Cat Strut again the other day for the first time in years... and fuck yeah - it is pretty fucken cool.

True the Pogues... and Tom Waits... and early Stevie Wonder...

i was stoked to find a nick cave / shane macgowan duet single at a secondhand record store awhile ago, covering "it's a wonderful world"

//nick cave /shane macgowan duet single ...

Yep. I own it. it's "what a wonderful world". The video is hilarious.

doh, you're right, stupid brain :)

// The video is hilarious.

And I have the video. Haha!

//And I have the video. Haha!

How could i forget! that album seems like so long ago, i was thinking of the albums i've been listening to of late, there's been so many of them.
Nice selection of NZ music though Achilles, you should definately listen to Mother Gurus self titled though, i'm assuming you haven't or it would have been on you list. How could it not

Yeah that album seems prehistoric but not dated! I've heard alot of great things about the new Mother Guru cd but to be honest i'm not really sure if it would be my sorta thing. It's not cause i don't like them, then again I haven't heard much of them to draw any conclusions but from what I hear they can laid down a good groove and well that's good but what drives me to like a band's music is a sorta empathy of some kind I can feed off. But maybe I will check out the Guru's debut if I get the chance. :)

//what drives me to like a band's music is a sorta empathy of some kind I can feed off
it's exactly that, all of their issues are real with so much depth and meaning, you feel completely enlightened after listening to them, especially after a live show

To date, the '00s are no better or worse than any other decade. As I told Nice Guy Eddy the other day, "90% of everything is crap," which some of you might recognise as Sturgeon's law, the flipside of which is, 10% of everything is not crap.

Dude... I quoted you on that "90% of averything is crap" in the forums yesterday... didn't mention a name though...

Mark my words Nosittap will be the red headed step child of New Zealand!!
