singing lessons??

I dunno if it's the done thing or not but if anyone knows any really decent singing teacher people in auckland city can ya let me know? i don't want those classical or strict style ones - just someone who can train my voice a little better so i don't destroy anyones ear drums!

Most singing teachers are mainly for classical singers, it would be rare to find someone that's not. But on that note (no pun intended) you're basically asking for the same training as a classical singer would get by the sounds of it, and I don't mean opera or anything by classical, just basically the knowledge of the proper singing technique, that unfortunately the majority of commercial artists don't have. Then again there are teachers who teach different styles such as jazz singing. In auckland I can recommend Sheila Richardson (but u'd have to travel to the shore) or Janice Webb, and for jazz Julie Mason. It'll set u back a bit of money too unless your school (if ur @ school) subsidises the lessons.

Everybody I know who sings goes to Janice Webb, she's supposed to be good, but then again it's probablly not the style you want.

thanks to you all - i wasn't quite sure what kind of styles were out there thats all - i'm keen to do rock style with a band and all so i was trying to figure the best kind of lessons to get.... if classical training opens your voice out than thats all good... i'll look into all of them tho... thanks again :-)
ps - i'm new to auckland and living in central auckland at the moment so if ya can let me know where they teach that'd be cool :-) oh and costs.....

Sheila Richardson teaches on the Shore, at schools and at her home in Greenhithe I think. She's really good and the cost is quite steep. For me it's about $27 for half an hr and apparently my school has already subsidised that by half for me so ur looking around $54, but I can't say I'm 100% sure on whether that's correct, best thing would be to call her and ask. I'll post the number as soon as. As for the other teachers I wouldn't have a clue. There is also another singing teacher at my school Mrs Malloy, she'd be cheaper but she's not as good, but if ur only wanting lessons to help develop ur voice for a band she could probably do the trick. Once again I'll post the number just as soon as I get it :)

Hello people. I can see this thread hasn't been active for a while, but I hope somebody still visits here. I found the page on google. I am moving from Sydney to Auckland soon and will be needing a singing teacher. I have seen a couple of names thrown around in here, but I need to know who's the best. I'll be living in the city, so close to the city would be good too. I am a tenor, so a tenor would also be good. At the end of the day though, I just want the best even if I have to travel or if they are a soprano or whatever. Can anyone help me here?
