//ah!, a reformation gig!, cool, is ben playing bass?
No, Ben's not on bass this time. The bassist is Jonno....
And DJ Steve (the package) will be supporting us along with The Undercurrants on the 15th.
The band is called The Shocking Pinks and it feature members of The Incisions, The Brunettes, Palace of Wisdom, Substandard, Holloway and Smith and more....
heh crazy, the above post threw me
hey do you know who's supporting nuvea riche with their wunderbar gig next week?, i'll be covering the dux one, so i spose your doing photos? sounds like a busy one anyway, we'll be in the studio on wednesday, supporting substandard at the dux on thursday, then reviewing those guys on friday
I have to post news about The Shocking Pinks here because we don't have a page of our own yet.
We're playing alongside The Undercurrents and Steve (The Package) will be Dj'ing some cool tunes.

The Shocking Pinks consists of members from The Brunettes, The Incisions, Palace of Wisdom, Holloway and Smith and more.
It should be a wicked night & we hope to see you there xxxx
Thankyou so much to all of you who came to see us last night and packed out The Media Club, and thanks to those of you who took photos/reviewed.
Our first gig was so much fun and to those of you who wanted to buy cds, we're sorry they sold out before you could get one and we promise we'll bring more next time.
heh, i had so much fun at the media club i'm coming down to christchurch for the next one.... (perhaps it might not be the main reason i'm back in christchurch but we shall just ignore that)
From everyone in the band thanks to all that turned up last night for the show. We all had a ball and it was good to see everyone up and dancing! Stay tuned for info on more recordings and a website in the near future...and from us here "in the pink" thanks!!
Hey, I'd like to second that. I had a fucking ball last night and cheers to the lovely people here in Chch who came to our show - you are all such awesome dancers.
Hi Franrose, we are actually gonna tour around December/January, keep checking here for more details, or wait a while for our website to be finished and then we'll have the info on there to.
And for anyone that doesn't know what we sound like, we'll probably be putting up some mp3's of our music on www.theshockingpinks.com eventually, or maybe we'll see if we can put some on nzmusic.com .
Ooooh and Franrose, maybe we'll be able to bring Self Titled with us :-D
man, it was awesome, i got a bunch more photos too mel, though none quite as good as that one from last time.. great to see people having such a fun time at a rock gig, it's been a while.
The Incisions are dead! They will never get back together. All the members have moved on to newer and better things. But they will live forever in our minds
hey mel, jas just gave me a copy of last nights shocking pinks demo - i'll be playing a couple songs from it on the show tonight (christchurch people - the sheep technique on rdu, 9pm-11pm), along with a bunch of rare tracks i've managed to get my hand on recently (dave mitchell, queen meanie puss, victor dimisich band..) so LISTEN IN!
THE TOUR...OH FOUR
10th JANUARY @ DUX DE LUX, CHRISTCHURCH.
17th JANUARY @ KINGS ARMS (With The Mint Chicks & Die,Die,Die), AUCKLAND.
24th JANUARY @ AMBER,WELLINGTON.
"Dance The Dance Electric" is out through Pinacolada Records on FEBUARY 14th (VALENTINES DAY). Available at all good record stores (i've always wanted to say that!)
So Busy busy busy. Come check us out! Strap on those dancing shoes!
I wonder how much work my physio could do towards getting me walking enough to go to the KA gig. (not likely but i can dream!) I'll miss out on amba for sure due to moving to christchurch on the 23rd. But yeah... i guess there will be plenty more gigs to see in the 03
they suck now. my frined was in that band until they cruelly decided they didn't need her anymore, apparently theyre not very nice people. I reckon she'll do better without them.
Hey Mattie :-) :-) you shouldn't post when you're drunk - although I completely agree with everything you said.
Sorry JJ, he does mean me.
I got some really good recordings outta being in that band, but I can't say that I have any pleasant memories of some of the members - who shall remain nameless because they know how I feel about them and I can't really post it on here anyway, because the language I would use is not very ladylike at all.
All I can say about the whole thing is that I miss doing the live gigs, but I'm glad I'm not part of their bullshit.
ps. the song they play on the radio most of theirs just so happens to be one of the ones that I sing on, it's called 'Us against the city', so hahahhahaa to them.
My post will probably start up some big argument from them, but hey, I'm only writing exactly how I feel about it all and they don't have to agree with me.
My new band will be gigging in a few months, so I'll keep you posted on that one....
"Affection" is currently The Shocking Pinks only playlisted song on RDU, Chch's only b-net station.
It features (only) Nick Harte on lead vocals. Check out The Shocking Pinks new video, "Lovehate", on C4's Homegrown and Intellectual property shows. Also check their only currently official page:
//"Affection" is currently The Shocking Pinks only playlisted song on RDU, Chch's only b-net station.
It features (only) Nick Harte on lead vocals.
I take it your post is aimed at my comment about how I mainly hear one of the songs I sang on, on the radio all the time.
Well I don't listen to the radio much, but I do always seem to hear that one song getting played. I know alot of the Dj's that have their own show on Rdu, and alot of the time they tend to bring in their own cds to play, so perhaps they bring in a shocking pinks cd and perhaps they choose to play that song.
I also have friends in other parts of NZ who have mentioned that they hear that particular song on the radio in their city alot.
Hmmmn. Re-listening to the demos (/Fallout Songs/) & looking at the website - might as well post thoughts prior to the album release & seeing them support Die! Die! Die! + the Mint Chicks next Saturday.
Incredibly rigid rhythms - a lot more Loop (circa the /Wolf Flow/ version of "Straight To Your Heart") & Spacemen 3 (circa "Big City (Everybody I Know Can Be Found Here)" than nearly anything dancepunk or mutant disco. Late-80s Wire ("Ahead", etc - the stuff "Map Ref 41N 93W" pointed towards) synths/guitar sounds. The Jesus & Mary Chain attempting to interpret the Zé Records catalogue.
& just to file my nails re : specious throwing about of the i-word - haha, the DFA? In yr DREAMS. Has nobody actually /listened/ to, say, 12" from the Juan Maclean? Or learned anything from LCD Soundsystem? "Beat Connection", vox aside, is pretty much deep house; "Yeah (Stupid Version)" features a full-on acid freakout (betcha weren't listening to "Higher State Of Consciousness" when it came out, heh), & . . . etc etc etc. Though I suppose both they & the Rapture can boast multiple Cure records in their collections.
& unless yr listening to a different era of ACR - um? Nowhere near as, haha, funky OR, conversely, weedy. & a lot of other shoegaze/dreampop groups are more applicable than MBV (even the Cocteau Twins!), & Chapterhouse ("Pearl", "Mesmerise" & /Blood Music/, at least) were a bit dancier.
No. Leave it alone. Reading that webpage does make me want to wage war on them before I've even heard them, though, which is unfortunate. For all I know they sound great.
for such a blatant attempt at one-up-man-ship and band-name-dropping to describe an artist, your exclusion of 'a certain ratio' is inexplicable. trystero, your trying to hard to dismiss them. they make good fun, upbeat and catchy songs with real guitar - thats fine enough in my books, though i can understand the squabling due to internal tension (and mel hasn't been the only victim).
"fun, catchy, upbeat" != "dreampop-miseralbilism" (sic). if their press kit hadn't made such spurious comparisons, & then been repeated like gospel by eg noizyland, I wouldn't have offered an alternate genealogy. haha if nick has really been reading robbe-grillet . . .
&, um, I think "unless yr listening to a different era of ACR - um? Nowhere near as, haha, funky OR, conversely, weedy" gives my grounds for exclusion of A Certain Ratio.
& regardless of all the personal politix surrounding them &c, where have I dismissed them? I've never said what they're doing is uninteresting - just that they're being wildly inaccurate about how they sound/who they sound like.
my name is nikolai harte. my project is titled "the shocking pinks". i have tried to set up a page here under that name, but can only assume that the people behind the curtain are either too busy or lazy to do anything about it. so here is a clarification, of sorts...

the shocking pinks began earlier in the year of 2003. i am a wrangler. i don't know what else to call myself. i write all (apart from one or two bass and guitar lines) of the music. i design clothes (you can see my new line at Quadrata - 175b high street christchurch). i write lyrics. i write. i read, or more appropriatley i research. i manage. i make films. i play musical instruments (vocals, drums, electronics, guitar, bass, viola, cello, violin, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, piano). i fall in love.
miserablism refers only to the lyrics, which I have been personally told ARE miserable by people like my mother who i trust more than some geek who spends half of their life sitting at a computer about which era of A Certain Ratio we are talking about. i am sorry i ever became invovled in this. i won't ever again. i consider this a "fan" page, so please, continue to fight over scraps - "fans"...
