Forums: Bands,

Some of you might have seen the posters around, but our next gig is on Saturday the 12th of April, at Bodega, with Two Lane Blacktop and The Accelerants...

Oooo... I'm excited - it's gonna be good.

I just happen to be going to Welly that weekend, so I might pop by the gig & check it out.... :-P

All you Welly Nzers should come up & say 'hi' to me, i'll be the redhead pointing a camera in peoples faces.
Or if you wanna meet up while im in town just email me - melsphotos@hotmail.com .

come to auckland!

At the start of my holidays too, what a perfect time for a gig. See you all there!

Woo...

My head is still a bit fuzzy this morning, but I just wanted to thank everyone that came along to bodega last night - Accelerants and Two Lane kicked arse, and we had the night of our lives!

i liked this band the best.

Thank you Mr. Batrider.
Your band is fresh air in a room full of aging cheese.

Once again, a fucken excellent performance.

// a room full of aging cheese.

I wouldn't call TLBT and The Accelerants aging cheese, man...

The Accelerants had one or two really good songs.
TLBT had some awesome moments but I'm getting so sick of the garage rock, "the" bands sound.
sometimes I wish people would just shoot me, at least it would be change.
Stop wearing influences so boldly. Work them together to form a "new" sound. Shock me, not just rock me.

rock revival? But I'm the one who is dying.

// But I'm the one who is dying.

So don't come along then.

I think they were all excellent. I was MOST impressed with Batrider, but I had a fucken wicked mosh to TLBT. And The Accellerants were also very cool. Nice little EP too.

yeah I'd agree with the wish for a "new" sound or at least a "unique" one ... TLBT've developed into a really good live act musically but most of their songs still sound like someone elses ... which is disappointing to me as they're obviously very talented (and nice people too!) ... that said, there's obviously A LOT of people who'd disagree with me judging by the reaction to their set ...

I had mixed feelings about Batrider, I was really encouraged by their first few songs (dark and punky which I always like) but they seemed to perhaps go on too long with similar material and their sound just stopped having an impact after a while ... I'd be really keen to check 'em out again in a few months again anyway :)

The Accelerants? love 'em! hell, I used my own cash to get their first single out ;-) Sure they're not necessarily 'original' but they have really great songwriting and a good variety of styles :)

it was a f'n great night anyway, and it was nice to see so many people at an all Wellie bands gig!

please take my comments with a grain of salt, or a truckload if you want.
I need a break.

Thoroughly enjoyed Batrider. Great stuff.

As for the other bands being "aging cheese" and a need for a "new" or "unique" sound... I wanted a good, solid band with a choice attitude who know how to rock. Saturday night's gig gave me three. Accelerants got bonus points for covering "Strychnine" - what a great song. A band who covers a song that The Cramps have already done (on their first album in fact) aren't likely to be that interested in pushing the boundaries of a new sound.

When I go to an action movie, I want action. When I go to a rock band, I want rock. Simple pleasures for a simple guy. Attitude is more important to me than innovation and Two Lane Blacktop in particular have attitude to burn.

Innovation is all very well and good. But not one band in a hundred creates a distinctive new sound, and not one in a hundred of THEM is worth listening to. Obviously I made those statistics up, but I stand by the sentiment, if not the numbers.

awsome gig last night. as i always do i took a pile of pretty cool pics. they are here

... and it was a good show. Well done.

Thanks Eddie.

As Disasteradio said elsewhere, the night went really well - everybody had a great old time. The bands all kicked arse, there was a good turnout and there was no trouble - it was really a great example of how a well organised all ages gig should turn out. Thanks everyone who came, and thanks Kerry for putting that together!

I'd just like to note that I think someone (and a different person each time I think) has shouted out 'play some Slayer' at us during our set every single time we've played. I hope people don't think we LOOK like Slayer...

woo yay ! best gig evarrr and batrider are the best band evarrrRR! woh-oo-woh-oo-woh-ooh-ooo
kerry is the bestest organizer too! yay woo!

you guys have to record sometime!

Am I right?

I, too, had noticed that... and it has been mentioned to me by a couple of random people... go the Aro St massive...

heh shhhHHHH! - if everyone knows, then the people who -do- won't be cool no more !

speaking of that, my first impression was of that dude in neverending story who rode a bat,
but he was a Nighthob. if I remember right.

Cool don't factor into it buddy... it's those wonderful Aro St chips... if you're a fan of them, you'll know Batrider...

I first thought of Knight Rider, oddly enough.

red devil, your conclusion is accurate. Foiled.
and we wouldve gotten away with it too if it werent for you pesky kids. if you listen close enough actually, you can hear the origional versions of all 'our' songs.
check it out.

Good gig at the thistle, the pink 69' strat is very cool!, it was nice meeting you last friday at
bodega Julia, rock 'n roll!

Sarah has the pinky, wish it was mine.
i would've upgraded sooner- had the right guitar found me, but unfortunately there has been no such magic yet.
who are you?

its Daniel here, remember?? we were talkin about strats at bodega, does it strike a chord yet?

aaah yes. Daniel. Sorry it was all a bit vague there for a while.
Chords have been struck.
see you next time!

Speaking of next time, come see Batrider play with Nouveau Riche and The Accelerants @ Bar Bodega, next Thursday 8th May. $5

That 8th of may gig sounds really good! The Accelerants, Batrider & Nouveau Riche are all really wicked bands! Only 5$ that is a bargin! Batrider were awesome last night at Watkins bar.

mmm Batrider goodness yet again!
The chorus in "play some slayer" is quite powerful with pounding drums. More new songs please.

You wrote a song called Play Some Slayer?!?! That is fucken class.

Record, godammit.

thankyou stefan, sorry didn't say hello, got too pissed. play some slayer was pretty rough, but will be better. catch you some time.

no problem.

// play some slayer was pretty rough

as are most new songs.
how was the wedding? heh, heh.

Great set on Thursday (in spite of the sound mix being all over the place) . . . I'm definitely converted now! :)

// I'm definitely converted now!

That's what we like to hear. Cheers man...

Now here comes three pretty vague statements - firstly for all you Aucklanders, we're headed your way. Yep - we've got a handful of dates sorted for June, and cracker gigs they'll be too. Tell you more closer to the time.

Also, fingers crossed, we'll be making our first visit to the studios in the next week or so to put down a couple of songs. Who knows what we'll do with them - but just letting you know we're working on it... and third - we'll keep you posted about our next gig, but perhaps you might like to keep saturday the 24th free?

yay cant wait!

wedding postponed, too many people at fidels. keep you posted.

stuff the priests garb, i'll come along in the old pimp suit and marry you two the old fashion way
nyek nyek nyek

hey tobes where are you?

Looking forward to their next gig with This Night Creeps, who are brilliant. Batrider have a kinda 'Pretty Girls Make Graves' sound to them. But Batrider have better hooks. Check em out.

yeap. Keen to check out This Night Creeps too.
Will you be bringing the CD?
