i think linkin park have grown together and their sound has changed a little. aside from somewhere i belong, i quite like the tracks 'faint', 'break the habit' and 'session'. the whole album is amazing and i'm sure it's a winner. to sum it up in one word: brilliant.

this album got 1.5 stars in newspaper today. maybe its just the reviewer but then again Hybrid Theory wasn't completly amazing either, it was ok though.
hmm... i read that both linkin park and papa roach's debute albums both sold just over the five million records mark world wide. Then papa roaches second piece of crap (even worse than the first in my opinion) didn't even go gold (500,000). Wonder how the new linkin park album will go? is this the end of 'nu metal'?...
anyway both these bands are highly over rated.. when i think of a band like blindspott, (hate them if you will) blindspott smoke all over them... hmmm i don't even think i'm on topic, oh well
i think this album will get more than 500,000 because of just how big this band is (i mean i know not many people in this forum may like them, but think of the boppers all over the world!)

umm that wud sorta kill their music. the whole reason for "hybrid theory" was to mix up different genres of music and create something different. its like saying "lose the drums" out of any other band. it would sound rather fuked up wudnt it??? its wut theyre about.
when he refers to 'boppers' he's talking about the mass general public that will like this music because they think it's hardcore. when it's not. heaviness is not a measure of how low you can tune your guitars. it's a conglamoration of the different elements of the band.
listening to the first single is like listening to house. non-offensive in any case, but i definately wouldn't want to be subjected to a whole hour of the stuff, for avoidance of aural boredom.

anyway, i've always thought chester had a very good voice, even if i'm not a huge linkin park fan... i guess he may sound a little like he sings through his nose, but i'm not hearing it...
When I first saw linkin park i thought, hmmm pretty boys been 'metal'...
then after hearing a bit of them i thought, they're quite catchy and have a few pretty cool songs, catchy.. still think that.
after getting home from a cricket 'function' (sitting around watching rugby) i saw linkin park on tv, it was one of those things that have interviews, live stuff, videos and what not. They proved them selves to be wankers, i guess they were okay when pulled a side for one on one interviews, but then they would act like real retards later on... oh and it showed them a oz feast, they had a much heavier sound and went quite a bit harder than i've seen elsewhere or on there album... i think they may have feared the crowd just a little, enough to want to be more 'metal'

Well the thing is with me I don't consider Deftones even metal. I know they have influences from metal and they have some very heavy elements in their music with a few more added dynamics that are calmer. Heck Chino can even sing too. To me i'd call the 'tones hard rock or just alternative. even though they are associated with awful bands like Limp Bizkit they are far too authentic too be put next to them and nu-metal.
chino can rap to, he raps on korn's life is peachy doing an ice cube cover "wicked" (you may already know that but eh)
and grommet_girl, metal comes in mant different forms, and bands were coming up with new sounds, and those sounds became more popular, and they didn't sound to much alike so people gave it a different title (eg. the birth of black metal). but it's stupid really cause they are so many different types of metal titles out there now it's like in 50 years every different metal band will have a title of their own.
i'll name some titles of the top of my head.
metal . heavy metal . nu metal . power metal . black metal . gothic metal . death metal . mechanical metal . cyber metal . rap metal

i read on some bass player website thing that che describes deftones as heavy, but not heavy metal as such. Basically becasue of the emotion they put in they consider it heavy, but in terms on style they take from so many that they don't label them selves as just one... he said when asked what they play he just says its heavy heh
True that chronickiwi.I also read that Che describes his writing as 'organic' (Refering to his underlining Basslines such as 'Change','Passenger'...).I also read an interview in 'Metal Hammer' w/ Chino say'in that the New album is going back 2 their orginal roots(Heavy),so i guess we can good-bye to that melodic/Experimental writing that was 'White Pony' (Still...another Maynard/Chino Duo would'nt hurt now??)...does anybody know the date the new album is out here?
