Another way of (not) doing it relies on the fact that vocals are normally mixed in a centre position (in terms of pan). If you subtract the left channel from the right channel you are left with the vocal track (more or less). You can then subtract the vocal track from left and right channels.
I believe this is the way "karaoke" buttons on stereos do it, possibly in combination with Noizyboy's way. You can do it yourself using the same programs mentioned above.
If you are after popular karaoke songs, try searching for them on file sharing services. Just put the song name followed by the word "karaoke". Not that I have ever EVER done that myself.
