mmm ok hamilton....
try soundproof for an r18 gig. thats gonna hold about 100-150 ish i dont know. it's wuite small.
for an all ages gig, youthzone or the meteor, both can hold large amounts of people (maybe 300 - 500 people, i dunno)
best night: definately try a friday or saturday, you'll usually get a pretty good turn out
not too sure on the addresses though, sorry
Valve in Wellington is definetly a good ...
Valve in Wellington is definetly a good place for metal bands. Depends on what sort of metal you play (nu-metal, hardcore, etc) cause they have metal nights with about 3 bands sometimes or you could headline on a thursday call the place up.
i think the valve legal capacity is ...
i think the valve legal capacity is about 100. its a skanky little pit of despair, perfectly suited to a dirty metal night. greg, the owner, loves a bit of metal and cxoud help you get other bands to fill up a lineup. the place usually fills up.
indigo has been known to put on metal nights, the capacity is between 350 and 450, depending on who you speak to, and also has a good resource for bands to play on the sam night. the crowds are usually between 50 and 150 for an unknown band, with more people turning up if they get to see a local band too.
underground arts occasionally puts on gigs, as does thistle hall, but the hall has a curfew of midnight-ish and steve at underground has to get a special license to throw a gig, plus neither are booze-selling venues. underground can fit about 100-150, thistle hall, cant remember.

no x-factor envolved, you just have to talk to alex, the band organiser and dj on thursday nights. his no: 021 215 0588 bands only play there on thursdays, unless it's special, in which case you can have it on wednesday hehehe. yeh, if you book early enough, you can ask him to suss out other bands for you to play with, and it'll be a good idea to send him a demo of a coupla songs so he can get the gist of what you sound like.
otherwise, there's always cafe 223 if you're desperate, and if you're organised and can pay the setup fee, you can play at the KA but you have to organise the support bands yerself.
there's also the roadhouse in papakura,
and if you're looking to setup an AA show you can contact the guy at stages through manashevitz@hotmail.com but it costs quite a bit to setup and all, and they just let out the floorspace, and you're left to organise everything yourself

masonic used to have good gigs playing ...
masonic used to have good gigs playing there. hell, the best show i ever went to was there. but since then, a lot of bands have left the place alone, i guess due to the 12 o'clock curfue and the annoying location. since then only half arsed shows have been held there, and if you're not well established you aren't going to have much of a crowd.
the venue doesn't make the show. the band does.
