Punk princess Avril Lavigne has lashed out at suggestions she's a manufactured pop star whose songs are written by other people.
The 18-year-old Canadian singer is particularly distressed at the idea that anybody could have written the incisive lyrics to her hit Sk8er Boi besides herself.
She says, "People are always saying that I'm just a product of the record label and manufactured, but that's not true.
"It p***es me off, because I'm not like that. I'm a writer. I write my music. Maybe when I was younger I co-wrote with people, but I was learning.
"Do you think three adults came up with Sk8er Boi when it was based on my high school experiences? Those words were my words. And it really f***ing rips me apart when people try to take my credit away from me."
