Thats it, WWIII is now only a matter of a "go ahead now" away, why oh why did Bush and his Bum Chums Blair and howard have to bombard Iraq, its "reasons" are not much of an arguement, Bush himself is a dictator, terrorist, fiend and butcher. America possess more Nukes and Bios than iraq does, why dont sum brave country invade America and "liberate" the people from the evils of Bush and Chums. and again i repeat the question: why is Australi and UK Sticking up to this tyrant Bush??

"On Wednesday, top U.S. foreign policy experts, working on behalf of the Council on Foreign Relations, released a report estimating rebuilding in Iraq to cost up to $20 billion per year for "several years"; it's reasonable to expect, then, that after the war, contracts worth much more than USAID's initial $900 million request will be made available to firms. The USA have a few reasons for going. ...
The USA have a few reasons for going. Some people think that it’s simply because of the oil, which seems stupid considering America gets less than 3% of its crude oil from Iraq. That and in approximately four years time when drilling in Alaska starts, they will retrieve 15% of its crude oil from there.
They say their primary reason for going into Iraq is to get Saddam out of power by effectively killing him, destroying the Iraqi regime, disarming them and then giving the country back to its people. They want it to go from a dictatorship to a democratic government and I don’t see why anyone would be opposed to that.
Yes, it’s true America put Saddam Hussein into power. It’s also true that he used American planes to gas the Kurds back in the 80’s. Even so, back then he was considered an ally to the Americans. It was only when he started using the weaponry inappropriately that America wanted to go in and clear him out.
The Iraqi regime has had twelve years to disarm itself. There’s been talk of the Gulf War and how it should have been the be all end all; that Saddam should have been taken out then. What people fail to realize is that at the time there was a US law which made the execution of any Head of State illegal, thus disallowing America to do such. Then there’s the fact that this is a completely different war. America’s incentive for this differs from the one they had at the time of the Gulf War.
Many people consider this war illegal without UN mandate. Iraq have breached seventeen UN treaties in total, and it was stated that should they breach it, severe action would be taken. By the looks of things, the UN weren’t going to do this themselves - they were trying to change the treaties (which in turn would break some international keeping treaty thing, wouldn‘t it?). Why should Iraq be given a third chance? It seems as though the UN had a line, and Iraq crossed it. However, rather than take action they just moved back further, drew another line and said ‘OK, don’t cross this one.’
Without action, this could well end up an ongoing thing.
America has been criticized for being upset at France over using their veto.
“France is just standing up for what they believe in!”
“What’s wrong with being against a war?!” they say.
France not so long ago sold Iraq 1.4 billion dollars worth of weaponry - how can you sell a madman these things? They know how crazy Saddam is, everyone does. Even so they expect to just make money off it and then leave it.
Even though the Americans have their reasons for going, there are also points going against the invasion.
At a UN Security Council meeting, Collin Powell quoted heavily from a “British Intelligence Document.”
This was later found to be made up of only undergraduate essays, and heinously out of date.
There’s also the estimated 1.4 million refugees, the 30% of the population who rely on government handouts as their sole source of food, the 500,000 children who are already malnourished and civilians, some of whom will no doubt become innocent casualties.
If you add everything up, Iraq is already a horrible place - can it really get any worse? If not, then why not let America attempt to enforce a democracy? Why not let them attempt to give a country back to its people?
If all goes to plan, future Iraq will benefit from this and their country will be better than it has been for a long time.
^^ my homework ;/

Now that the stated US mission is to ...
Now that the stated US mission is to depose Saddam, the idea of the war isn't as abhorrent as it once was. There was fairly length discussion on the pros and cons of the type of war needed (I was for a limited strike aimed at taking out Saddam -- just why this needs a quarter of a million troops and tonnes upon tonnes of high explosives still eludes me, but I don't have a great strategic mind)...
Anyway, that was all discussed here:

So, yes, as long as the Americans move on to Mugabe and Kim Jong-il next, then honour will be satisfied.
What irks me with the US build-up was how they flip-flopped over the reason for going to war. Weapons of mass destruction and the supposed links to terrorism were the excuses they seemed to be trotting out the most often, and the liberation of the people only seemed to come as something of an afterthought.
// Without action, this could well end up an ongoing thing.
I still think that this is 'so what?' situation. So what if the Iraqis kept skimping on various bits of the weapons inspectors demands. The Iraqi military capabilities have already been so heavily reduced by the last gulf war, the weapons destruction program that lasted until the late 90s, and the renewed weapons inspections of this decade that they surely don't pose a threat to anyone, least the Americans.
There's also this quote from Hans Blix regarding the reasons behind Iraq's lack of co-operation: "...an examination of U.S. policy indicates that for the last 12 years the U.S. government has maintained the economic sanctions regardless of Iraqi actions towards the weapons inspectors, creating a disincentive for compliance -- and helping to explain why Iraq has taken so long to comply." More here: http://www.accuracy.org/press_releases/PR031103.htm

Are you saying that gassing the kurds was appropriate behaviour, and it was after this that he started doing 'inappropriate' things? He also used US-supplied chemical and biological weapons against Iran in the war against them, with full US knowledge. How 'appropriate' was that? The US has been aware of Saddam's crimes against humanity for over 20 years, and it's only now pulled that out as an excuse for an invasion.
// France not so long ago sold Iraq 1.4 billion dollars worth of weaponry
// how can you sell a madman these things?
24 AMERICAN corporations have also supplied Iraq with the equipment and other material it needed to develop biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons.
