nirvanas one of my favourites also, but i didnt think to include them for some reason. so yeah, add NIRVANA and pennywise and anti flag

nirvana arent punk, are they?:S

if they aren't, what are they?? please don't say grunge, it means nothing

Nirvana were mostly punk rock but also indie/alternative but definitely not grunge. The only album of theirs close to grunge would be Bleach. It did say on Kurt's death certificate under occupation 'punk rock' as well. Most people don't think of them as punk because whenever punk is brought up these days bands such as Sum 41, Blink 182 and Good Charlottle just to name a few are brought up. But they aren't punk, they are power pop.

Dude... how can you say Nirvana definately weren't grunge? The term was created to describe their sound. That's like saying Portishead isn't Trip Hop.

But yeah... they're punk too.

grunge wasn't to describe a band sound, it was what they wore & where they came from, its not a genre.
These bands - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, SoundGarden, Alice in Chains were all label as 'grunge', but none of them sounded the same, its was just because they came from Seattle.
Grunge basically means earlys 90s bands from Seattle.

actually "grunge" has been described as a genre to be a mesh of punk and metal. and i don't think Kurt, Dave or Krist ever considered themselves grunge.

nirvana so arent punk, it doesnt describe their sound at all

the media came up with that stupid name
// i don't think Kurt, Dave or Krist ever considered themselves grunge.
they considered themselves as punk rock, I have it on video.
Whenever that name came up they made fun of it, Dave still does!!
Quote from Dave, "Grunge was never born, so grunge will never die".

//...Pearl Jam, SoundGarden, Alice in Chains were all label as 'grunge', but none of them sounded the same...

*cough* *cough*

need some water??

neither most of these other bands people are writing down such as sommerset, propaghandi, the ataris, lagwagon, good charlottle, me first and the gimme gimmes, nofx, dropkick murphys, most of what Amz plays on her show, even Millencolin. but Nirvana actually are punk, most people wouldn't agree if they consider any bands i just listed punk.

i think nirvana wernt labeled punk because they didnt have so much political lyrics, or as lots of "punk" bands nowadays do, palm mutes on theyre songs. i think nirvana had a punk attitude though, which nowadays counts for alot more than dress style *cough* avril good charlotte *cough*, and other "punk" things. Normally though I refer to Nirvana as punk rock, or grunge *cringe*.

Punk is a very vague term..

Punk is pretty much dead now.......

yeah its more about the image than the music now days, example - Avril & Good Charlotte

AVRIL??????? pitssshhhhh.....

how dare u call her punk? and Good charlote isnt really punk. its more pop rock than punk.

// pitssshhhhh.....

are you doing this from your car? did you just change gears?

I wasn't, I said her image is not her music, same with crappy Good Charlotte

//example -Good Charlotte

i personally think they look more gothic than anything, with full white faces black clothes and all wearing those 'gothlet' bracelet things they look gothic as hell, no way near mansons level but still....

why don't we agree that they suck.
A lot of people don't even know what punk is these days, they think it what they wear & the way they act

awww...i loke good charlotte. i know they're not "punk" but i still like some of their songs. i've seen them live twice, and they put on a pretty decent live show.

i'd say. Punk is a way of life not an image.

// Punk is a very vague term..

That's why this is my first and last post in this thread, unless they want across the board, anything goes terms of punk
