dance dance revolution

Debra Daley's posts over at Public Address have got me totally interested in DDR.

Having seen it only vaguely in passing (usually while wandering past the spacies parlour that's downstairs from the Manners Mall Hoyts), I was totally unaware of the complexities of the game, and that you can actually buy the game for PS2 and get special dance console pads for your home.

(Actually, it's that latter bit that particularly interested me, as, being an outrageously bad (Elaine-from-Seinfeld bad, in fact) dancer, I figured this would be a) a good way to learn how to move my limbs in some sort of rhythmically-coordinated way before heading out to any public dancing event; b) a good fitness workout; and c) something I could play with my wife, who loves dancing.)

Has anyone out there played this thing? Is it fun? Any hints for the aspiring beginner?

Forums: The Bar,

its heaps of fun! one of my friends is an nz DDR champion (i've never bothered playing against her)

it might be worth knowing that the PS2 dance squares are quite a bit smaller than the ones in the arcades, so if you think you're a master at home, don't try to show off on a real DDR machine...

OH MY GOD! i saw a boy on one of those , who was quite plump and i fear he may have had some sort of problem. He was dancing like there was no tommorrow, with his t shirt soaking in sweat. The look on his face was absolutely manic, and everyone was slowly backing away, with the arcade owners looking really concerned.....it was quite funny, in a terrifying way.

dude noizy next time people hook up at a show or something we'll hit the DDR later on (my fave is lunar park's 5th mix).. I guess I'm good for my size (I can past most tracks on normal level now, and a number on trick) - I dunno about this ps2 thing.. I have enough fun playing once a week heh.

but yeah I (or my girl) can always carry you through a moderately difficult tune - it's not whether both of you do real well, it's if one of you passes that makes you finish a song. that's how we get people up & running anyway

wicked, I'm well up for it. cheers.
